Tokyo Game Show 2018 CPT Premier Event results

Update: This story has been updated with final results.

Tokyo Game Show 2018 is in full swing, with tons of game announcements and other fun stuff going on at the venue, as it's one of (if not the very) biggest gaming expos in all of Japan.

As has become tradition by now, it's also hosting a Premier Event for the Capcom Pro Tour, so there's some serious Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition action coming up this weekend.

With a whopping 723 entrants, I'm fairly sure that this makes it the biggest Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition event of the year besides EVO events, though correct me in the comments if I'm wrong.

Among these 700+ names, you can find familiar faces such as FOX|Tokido, UYU|NL, FD|Fujimura, UYU|OilKing, Fursan|Verloren, CYG|Daigo, RZR|Xian, FOX|Justin Wong, Liquid|Nemo, CYG|Fuudo, FAV|Sako, RB|Bonchan, Gachikun, Ghost|NuckleDu, FOX|Momochi, DouyuTV|Xiao Hai, Mago, OC|Gafro, DNG|Itabashi Zangief, GRPT|MOV, Surugaya|Machabo, FD|Haitani, GGP|Kazunoko, SZY|Mizuha, FAV|Ryuusei, AB|Poongko, Ponos|Moke, WP|Daikokugo, AB|StormKubo, CO|Go1, YHC-Mochi, Trashbox, UYU|Jeondding, Nishikin, Talon|HotDog29, AB|Kichipa-mu, Mishie, Talon|Denesis, AB|Gunfight, FD|Johnny, FD|Haku, EG|Ricki Ortiz, Xiaobao, FD|Otani, CYG|PR Balrog, P2G|Harumy, Reiketsu and Saisak... But of course, many more besides them as well.

This year is also special, as an extra prize pot has been added — which is probably why so many people have gathered. Over $90,000 is up for grabs, and you can read more about the details of the prizing here.

Streaming will be done, as is customary for Premier Events, at Capcom Fighters.

Gafro is the only undefeated player of the first stage, set for finals with Sako and Fuudo, but who still has to fight it out? — Topanga League Recap

When it comes to Topanga League, it's often difficult to say that results ended up as expected.

Of course, there are players which usually end up around what people expect from them, but given the round robin format and the fact that there's usually nothing but top level players present, anything can happen... and happen it did.

With the first stage groups wrapped up, many players battle their very hardest in order to advance, and in the end one person from each group stood victorious, netting them a spot in the finals group taking place in October — CYG|Fuudo, OC|Gafro and FAV|Sako, respectively.

That doesn't mean we're even close to the end, though, since four players from each group made it to the second stage groups, where they've been reshuffled based on their results and will fight in a new round robin in order to get a spot in the finals alongside the aforementioned three champions.

These twelve players have been divided up in to three four-man groups in which they'll have to battle for the very first spot to advance into the finals — meaning that you'll have to beat everyone else in the group in the score to have a chance. In this harsh system, four thirds of the players will be eliminated the last weekend of September, when the next installments are happening all weekend, Friday through Sunday.

This second stage is being played offline, contrary to the online sets we've seen so far, so expect much more hype when seeing the players interact in person. Continue below for a rundown of what went down in today's final installment of the initial round of the 7th Topanga League, details on which players advanced and a showcase of the new groups that'll be battling it out later this month.

Gafro's Balrog remains undefeated, MOV's Chun-Li mounts a comeback in the rankings and more top players fall out of the running — Topanga Week 3 Recap

The 7th Topanga League is still underway, and with the third week wrapped up, standings have shifted quite a bit in the three different groups.

Much like last week, there's a lot to talk about, and I'll be breaking down each individual group and the main happenings in them, with a summary at the end of which players are still in the running and their general chances.

Given the high level at the Topanga League and the prestige of the event, doing a rundown each week feels like a good way to bring more people into the fray to follow along with what's happening.

Because of the awkward times for some people, mainly American viewers, it's likely you wouldn't have seen it live, and OpenRec may not be your streaming platform of choice either.

This week had only one session played, but it was the penultimate one — next week, the first stage of the competition will wrap up, so this is the time for players to give it their all.

Now, let's have a look at current Topanga League 7 standings, and how chances are looking for the players present.
