This version of Smash Ultimate is the E3 2018 build of the game, so there are only about 30 characters available out of the 65 currently announced. According to Sakurai, the pro players have had very little time with the new game before this competition got started.

Although Fujimura won Stunfest in a magnificent fashion last weekend, he was the only Ibuki player in the entire top 64

During last year's Season 2 of Street Fighter 5, Ibuki was seen as one of the "problem characters", especially in Japan, with a lot of players deciding to pick her up because of how good she was.

Even then, she definitely wasn't a character that made up the majority of any top bracket, in fact, looking at both Ultimate Fighting Arena, a premier event in France last year, and EVO 2017, each of them had 4 Ibuki players place in the top 64.

When the Season 3 changes came in, there was a lot of early talk about Ibuki being dead as a character, and indeed, several players who used to play her switched off of her, though notably, the two Ibuki mains who made it to Capcom Cup last year, FD|Fujimura (formerly known as Yukadon) and RZR|Xian stuck with her, though CO|Go1 who used her in some matchups seems to have dropped her entirely.

Seeing the results from FD|Fujimura and RZR|Xian lately, this weekend in particular, where FD|Fujimura won Stunfest and RZR|Xian grabbed second place at Battle Arena Melbourne 10, Ibuki as a character definitely seems to be in a good spot, but only a chosen few are able to perform with her.

Usually, when a character is called top tier or high tier, you'll see a heavy influx of said character in tournament, and they'll be all over the place in results lists, and while that honestly wasn't quite the case with Ibuki last year when she was seen as a top character, it's even less the case this year where she clearly seems to still be a strong contender.

Let's take a look at the character distribution in Stunfest's top 64, and how it reflects on FD|Fujimura's performance with Ibuki.
