Spidey is pretty much limited to being a point character with assists. Solo, he's alright, but X-Factor makes him hard to handle.
For an assist, I actually prefer Spider Sting. People attempt to use the other two assists in combos, but they're pretty lame compared to what most of the cast can offer in terms of protection or combo extension. Spider Sting offers something a little different. If you have 1 bar of meter and your point character is pinned down, Spidey can come in using Spider Sting as an invincible alpha counter. If you have 2 bars of meter he can combo it into Maximum Spider too. It completely reverses momentum, which is worth more to me than a sub-par combo extender.
