I highly disagree with the people who say Mario vs. Shulk is an even matchup. Reason number 1 being Shulk outranges Mario SOOOOOOO hard and as a character that already struggles against disjoints this means its virtually impossible to get in against shulk. Shulk's bair is like as long or slightly longer than a PS2 platform. Speaking of that his nair also covers the entirety of a PS2 platform. Furthermore, his Up B is a super solid out of shield and its range is actually ridiculous. I would venture to say its about as big or bigger than Mario's u smash but with all that range expended in front of Shulk rather than having it centered on him. Reason 2 is Shield art. Anytime Mario actually does manage to get in whenever Shulk sees fit he can switch to shield art and just fall out of the combo. This strategy works until about 150% when Mario can actually combo shield art Shulk but even then he can still get out of those pretty easily. Reason 3 is that Shulk can exploit Mario's recovery so easily. Fair covers a ton of space and basically the Shulk just has to guess whether or not Mario's going low or high rather than how low or how high he's going. and in the event that fair misses he can always jump back and up b facing away from the stage to completely nullify Mario up b.
