Ness vs. Samus Super Smash Bros. Brawl tiers, match-up votes and discussion

One of Ness’s 6 favourable matchups. The neutral is pretty even as Samus is able to make Ness’s approach difficult with Missles and Zair, but in return Ness can crouch under them or Spot Dodge and punish with a PK with a PK fire which goes under and Missles and Zair and hit Samus. Up close boxing/combos are in Ness’s favour as he has Fair strings and Uair juggling which is easy to pull off because of how floaty Samus is, but Ness can struggle to get his hands on Samus as she has great options to swat Ness away because of her OOS options like Up Special and Nair. Samus also has her own combos she can do on Ness with her Zair, Uair and Fair but they require her to be able to space efficiently which is hard for her to do as Ness will always be in her face. Charge Shot also gets absorbed by Magnet, so she can’t use it to dismay Ness’s approach, and only as an edgegaurding or punish option. However, the biggest problem for Samus in this matchup is her problem KOing Ness and the opposite being the case for Ness (This is also the reason she loses to Lucario). A lot of the characters Samus is even with like Peach, Yoshi and ROB have ways to counter her zoning and get in her face, but they can’t KO her efficiently. Ness has lots of great moves that safely KO Samus like Uair, Bair, Back Throw and Nair and if he connects a PK Fire, Forward Smash. Samus also has poor momentum cancelling like ROB (Ironic) so this aids to Ness’s already KOing ability.

So to recap, because of Ness’s great ways to counter Samus’s Zoning, great up close boxing and combos, and being able to KO her better and her not being able to KO him in return, this is one of Ness’s best matchups and one of Samus’s worst in low tier. This matchup would be better if she had better KO options like she does in Sm4sh and Ultimate (She has 3 kill throws in that game). I vote 6/4.
