Meta Knight vs. Toon Link Super Smash Bros. Brawl tiers, match-up votes and discussion

Like what the matchup chart says this is Toon Link's worst matchup in brawl.

Meta Knight has an easy time with Toon Link because of the amount of options he has that can overwhelm him.

That's the simple explanation; the longer one is worth posting.

Toon Link generally thrives off using his projectiles to limit the options of his opponents, for one wrong move on their part means the boy will deal them some meaty combos. The problem is, Meta Knight's abundance of options make his approach difficult to predict, which becomes an enormous problem for TL at mid-range. MK's Galaxia consistently outranges TL's Master Sword, so TL will have to rely on his Clawshot when landing. The range also means MK can get out of TL's combos sooner.

The other aspect that TL is really subdued in is the ledge and offstage game. Even after factoring in that MK's recovery is much better, TL is still easily gimped. MK's dair outranges Spin Attack and launches at an angle undesirable for a Clawshot grapple. The high priority on MK's other aerials means arrows and boomerangs don't protect TL as much as they do in many of his other arduous matchups. That leaves only bombs, which MK can easily avoid in this situation; if they're thrown at the ledge, MK can run offstage and use a lingering aerial to intercept whatever TL does next. He can jump, Shuttle Loop or Dimensional Cape around down thrown or Z-dropped bombs. At ledge, MK's aerials allow him to safely escape the majority of potential trapping situations TL can put him in. Meanwhile, Tornado stuffs literally every option TL has.

Meta Knight is THE reason why Toon Link hasn't been more common in Brawl tournaments. He beats the boy at his own swordplay, can more consistently keep him in disadvantage, and has exactly the right tools for keeping him offstage. It isn't as dire as the other Link's situation, but I cannot say that using TL is advisable against Meta Knight. 7/3.
