One of the worst 4 matchups for Link.

Despite Link having projectiles, King Dedede takes neutral here. Waddle Dees force Link to jump to commit to his zoning, which leaves him open to back airs. Since Link is about as slow as the monarch in other regards, he needs to be on the defensive even when he gets neutral advantage for one reason: being a fellow heavyweight, Link is vulnerable to King Dedede's down throw chain grab, all the way across the stage. The final down throw puts Link in a miserable situation. If he Clawshots, forward air will knock him away, and at that point he is out of options. Spin Attack allows him no horizontal momentum at that point, so he will just go up and then plummet like a rock while King Dedede times an edgehog. At ledge, the King's down air will beat out both of his get-up attacks, and back air stuffs Link's aerials regardless of whether the hero buffers them. If King Dedede is recovering (by some miracle if Link actually got that far), Link cannot go offstage because of how asinine his recovery is: instead he has to use his projectiles to get the King to recover low. Even then, all of Link's options directly at ledge get defeated by up air, and thus he has to resort to baiting for a Spin Attack via his projectiles. It's still easy to predict, and so the King can punish it and get off with virtually no problems.

Because of King Dedede's chain grab and edge guarding, and how Link struggles agonizingly with racking up damage (let alone killing), he is one of the four characters who goes 8/2 against the hero.
