It's mainly Kirby's down air that helps him offstage, but it got a nerfed hitbox. Even though Donkey Kong's larger size should make him ideal for Kirby's combos, it also improves his range, which Kirby got a nerf to on the majority of his moves. As such, it's easier for Donkey Kong to keep Kirby out with back airs and the like, and of course he can also KO Kirby pretty easily. I'd say that Kirby gets solidly countered in this matchup overall.

I think that Kirby would be better, because donkey kong is bigger being an easy target for an attacker like Kirby and Kirby's recovery is better, because donkey kong's up-b can't carry him up that much.
