John 'Velociraptor' Guerrero

Head of Broadcast, Front Page Editor

John got a taste for fighting games in the early 1990's with Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat, though the latter quickly became forbidden fruit once Mom saw a Fatalilty or two.

Fast forward to 2009 when a chance event led him back into the genre with Street Fighter 4. He would eventually become one of the more notable (only) Gouken players. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in film making and analysis from the University of Arizona, he went out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment business, but found an even truer passion in the fighting game community.

Intense practice with the Arizona and Southern California Street Fighter scenes led to his placing in the top eight of a handful of prestigious events, winning Wednesday Night Fights multiple times, placing in the top 25 at EVO, and even winning a Capcom Pro Tour event in 2014.

Writing has been a pastime since kindergarten, and so EventHubs happens to be the perfect marriage of hobbies for this lucky fan of both the pen and (virtual) sword.

John is also the co-host and editor of the EventHubs Podcast, a weekly show that covers significant happenings in the FGC with a heavy emphasis on Street Fighter.

He also plays Street Fighter 5, used to get through Tekken arcade ladders on single credits with nothing but Hwoarang kicks, was the best Super Smash Bros. player on his block growing up, (kinda like everyone else in the FGC) and wished he were better at Dragon Ball FighterZ because he loves the anime.

John is especially interested in human psychology these days, and how it dances with our desires and experiences playing fighters.

From the sometimes curious motivators that drive us to endure through extreme frustrations to why so many people love Mileena so much, finding the nuances and details of such is currently atop the list of John's favorite things to explore.
