Ronda Rousey confirmed as voice actress behind Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11; Sonya's official character trailer shown

Rumors have been circulating about the internet the past few weeks that former UFC and current WWE star Ronda Rousey would be behind the vocals of Mortal Kombat mainstay Sonya Blade. We got confirmation of that today at the MK11 reveal in Los Angeles.

Blade was officially revealed in the trailer included below, with commentary from Rousey to accompany the stellar and gory visuals as we watch Sonya pummel, shoot, toss and break opponents left and right.

The connection between these two goes way back as Rousey explains that Sonya was one of the very first "kick ass girls" she recalls inspiring her.

We get some snippets of the WWE Women's Champ in the recording booth as she lends her pipes to the long time Mortal Kombat character.

As far as Sonya goes, it seems she's still all about military gadgets and wild throws as she utilizes plenty of drones, guns, head-scissors takeovers and more in her fight style.

Check out the trailer below, which includes plenty of extremely violent NSFW content.

Fatalities and Fatal Blows are even bloodier and gorier than they've ever been in Mortal Kombat 11's latest trailer

Of all the iconic staples that make the Mortal Kombat franchise what it is, fatalities are probably the most recognizable. We've now gotten to see a handful of these finishers from Mortal Kombat 11, and they're bloody brilliant.

During the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal live event, series co-creator Ed Boon showed off a collection of fatalities that can be used in the game along with the brand new Fatal Blows that appear to replace the previous X-Ray attacks.

These moves are absolutely devastating as character break, crunch, stab, rip (you can pretty much insert any brutal attack verb and be safe here) each other apart both before and after the rounds are over.

Though we didn't really believe it to be possible, the standard has been set even higher as this visually beautiful game shows off some of its most intense sequences.

As an example, Baraka forcefully removes his opponent's face, then breaks the front of their skull away... and then things get really violent.

You can check out the new Mortal Kombat 11 Fatalities trailer after the jump plus some bloody examples in the clips below for Baraka, Skarlet and Sub-Zero. NSFW content ahead.

First Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay revealed; Baraka, Skarlet, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Sonya Blade shown

The Mortal Kombat team kicked off today's reveal off with a bang as we immediately got to see the official gameplay reveal.

This includes footage of Baraka, Skarlet, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Sonya Blade all looking better than ever in what might be the most beautifully brutal MK game yet.

The new footage highlights a handful of fighting arenas, some of which look brand new with others retaining some recognizable aspects of stages in MK titles past.

As expected, gameplay looks very fast-paced as characters leap on, over and past their foes while pulling off some of the most gruesome attacks we've seen in any fighting game to date.

We're also somewhat surprised to see Skarlet, one of the more recent roster members (she joined as DLC for MK 2011) making a return along with some long time favorites.

Here are a handful of images straight from the trailer, which is waiting in its entirety after the jump. As always with Mortal Kombat content, a good bit of this is NSFW due to violence.

Nyotengu and Phase 4 revealed for Dead or Alive 6, new combat and features trailer released

Two new characters join the Dead or Alive 6 roster. Nyotengu and Phase 4 have been officially unveiled by Team Ninja this morning, and they will be joining the fight as DLC.

From the looks of it, Nyotengu will be a bonus character for those who pre-order the physical or digital version of the game. Phase 4 will come included with the Digital Deluxe version of Dead or Alive 6, along with an additional costume for Kasumi, a Deluxe costume set of 25 outfits, and 3 music tracks.

A clone of Kasumi, Phase 4 is a man-made weapon who still holds the memories and personality of the fighter she was replicated from. Here codename is "Kasumi Alpha Phase 4," and the "Phase 4" part is a reference to the final stage of the clone weapon production of M.I.S.T.'s Project Alpha.

Nyotengu is a legendary being whose beauty has been spoken about throughout Japan over many generations. Her reason for coming down to the human realm to fight is simply to appease her boredom, and rumors of Ryu Hayabusa — the human who defeated Bankotsubo — were what piqued her interest in the first place.

Not much personal data is known about Phase 4 and Nyotengu. Phase 4's fighting style is unknown, though it is derived from Kasumi’s Mugen Tenshin Ninjutsu and includes numerous improvements. Nyotengu fights using Manjū, which sees her utilize powerful strikes and aerial attacks with the help of her large wings.

Team Ninja has also released a trailer showcasing the various combat mechanics and features in Dead or Alive 6. In it, we see demonstrations of game mechanics such as Break Blow and Fatal Rush, a quick glimpse at story mode, and more.

This trailer also provides a look at "DOA Central," which allows you to customize your character with various costumes and cosmetic changes.

Dead or Alive 6 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 1st.

Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition Season 4 patch notes released

Following the conclusion of Capcom Cup 2018, the developers released the official patch notes for Street Fighter 5 Season 4.

Included in this giant list of notes are changes for every character on the Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition roster. There are many buffs, many nerfs, and even some new moves added to the game.

There have been some sweeping changes made to the game, such as a universal shift to make it so that every character can get hit during the activation of their V-Trigger. Previously, some characters had invincibility during the V-Trigger activation's screen freeze, but now everyone has been normalized.

On top of that, EX attacks that have invincibility beginning on frame 1 are now susceptible to harder punishes when recovering. In Season 4, the first attack used to punish such moves will do 1.2x damage, meaning you'll be able to tack even more pain onto your opponent who attempts a risky reversal.

In a surprising turn of events, Capcom released the Season 4 balance update right after Capcom Cup wrapped up. All of these balance changes are available in game now, as well as brand new DLC character and official start to Season 4, Kage.

You can find the full set of Street Fighter 5 Season 4 patch notes below.

Official Kage trailer and character breakdown for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition

Kage's Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition trailer has been officially revealed by Capcom. Kage, meaning "shadow," is said to be the embodiment of the Satsui and was born out of humanity's obsession with power.

To differentiate him from the Evil Ryu of Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Kage has a very devil-like appearance. He has sharp fangs protruding from his mouth, horns, red irises inside of blackened eyes, and energy burns on his torso.

V-Trigger 1 allows Kage to teleport while airborne. He is actually permitted to extend combos this way. These can be performed while grounded too.

V-Trigger 2 gives Kage access to a ground pound type of attack. Essentially, think of this as Akuma's ground pound ender that comes after his V-Trigger 1 Dragon Punches, but add a teleport before it.

He has a 180 degree Hurricane Kick, a fireball, a Dragon Punch, Evil Ryu's axe kick (which can extend grounded combos), and a red fireball. Kage was also shown performing a parry-like action that is similar to Akuma's V-Skill.

As expected, he appears to also have access to Akuma's Raging Demon except it is more violent looking. He has 900 stamina and 950 stun.

Granblue Fantasy Versus announced as a fighting game collaboration between Arc System Works and Cygames

Arc System Works created their own unique take on cell-shaded '3D that looks like 2D' fighting game engines beginning with Guilty Gear Xrd which has since caught the attention of other developers / publishers and led to some collaborations like Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Cygames revealed at their Granblue Fes 2018 event in Japan that a new fighting game spin-off for the popular RPG is in development called Granblue Fantasy Versus, and its art style may look familiar to Guilty Gear players because it is being developed by Arc System Works.

Five characters from the RPG were shown off in Granblue Fantasy Versus' reveal trailer including Gran, Katalina, Charlotta, Lancelot and Ferry.

The title is described as "a brand new fighting game from the developers of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, set in the world of Japan’s megahit RPG, Granblue Fantasy featuring original gameplay tailor-made to appeal to both Granblue and fighting game fans alike" according to its official website.

Its HUD and interface are not shown off in this first trailer, but the combat engine looks quite similar to the recent Guilty Gear titles with an emphasis on weapon-based fighting along with a variety of magical attacks.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is scheduled to release on the PlayStation 4 in 2019 for Japan though no other planned territories have been announced at this time. Capcom Cup 2018 Last Chance Qualifier preview — which powerhouses are looking most likely to make it through to the main event?

One of the biggest fighting game events of the year is here to close out the year, and we're gearing up to watch it in all of its glory.

Of course I'm talking about Capcom Cup 2018, the grand finals of Capcom's main fighting game title, Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition.

Although I say grand finals, there's still a long way to go — we've got both a stacked Last Chance Qualifier to get through as well as the main event, which itself will host 32 players competing.

In short, it's going to be a very long weekend, and in case you need a refresher for what's going down, we're right here for you.

We've already covered the main event in a two-part preview, of which you can find part 1 here and part 2 here, but now it's time to talk about the Last Chance Qualifier.

Given the amazing performance Liquid|Nemo showed us last year after winning the Last Chance Qualifier, it's definitely something people are keeping an eye on, so let's see which players are looking most primed to have a strong shot at grabbing that last Capcom Cup spot this year.

NieR: Automata’s 2B coming to Soul Calibur 6 on December 18th, Bandai Namco details balance changes in V1.10 patch notes

Bandai Namco has announced the release date for Soul Calibur 6's next DLC character. Guest fighter 2B officially joins the fight on December 18th, 2018.

2B hails from Square Enix’s action RPG, NieR: Automata. She is the second guest character to join Soul Calibur 6 after The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia, who is a part of the game's launch roster.

You will be able to gain access to 2B by purchasing the Soul Calibur 6 Season Pass, which for $29.99 USD will net you the three upcoming DLC characters (as they're released), two sets of creation parts, and bonus character Tira — if you don't already own her. 2B will also come included with an alternate costume, unique background music, a new stage, and more.

The company also released patch notes for the upcoming V1.10 update. This patch adds several alterations to the game, including numerous balance changes for each of the fighters on the current roster.

Soul Calibur 6's upcoming update will not only feature balance changes, but it is also set to improve network functionalities and aims to fix the issues with the game's created characters. Since the game's launch, players have been using the Create-A-Soul mode to generate offensive creations and characters that make matches unfair — and they can be used in ranked bouts. We will likely be seeing new measures to counter these situations with the patch.

We can expect to see the V1.10 update for Soul Calibur 6 on December 17th, a day before 2B's release. It will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on the same day.

You can view the full English patch notes here.

Brad Wong and Eliot gameplay trailer released for Dead or Alive 6

Koei Tecmo has released the first gameplay footage of Brad Wong and Eliot in Dead or Alive 6.

This trailer comes hot off the heels of the reveal for these characters that came about in Famitsu magazine.

Both Eliot and Brad are returning characters in the Dead or Alive series.

Brad Wong practices the drunken fist fighting style in the DOA series. He made his debut back in Dead or Alive 3. According to Koei Tecmo, Wong spent years training in the remote mountains of China, until his master sent him on a quest to find a legendary liquor. Wong entered DOA’s third and fourth tournaments, but skipped the fifth; now he returns to take on the competition once again.

Eliot fights using Xingyi Quan martial arts and is pupil to fellow Dead or Alive series combatant, Gen Fu. Eliot, known as “The Apprentice of the Iron Fist,” set off on a journey of self-discovery and martial arts training alongside Brad Wong after the fourth DOA tournament. It was here that Eliot was allowed to learn the ways of Xinyi Liuhe Quan, and now enters the sixth DOA tournament with the improved skill and confidence of a true first-rate martial artist.

More details about these fighters can be found on the official Dead or Alive 6 website. You can check out the trailer below.

Here's our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate review and why it took us a few extra days to release

One of the largest gaming events of 2018 is finally upon us; Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is officially in the hands of the public. Nintendo brings to the world the most ambitious entry in the series, with more content, more characters, more stages, and more everything packed into a Smash Bros. game than ever before.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boasts a launch roster of over 70 characters, features more than 100 playable stages (each with three different layouts to choose from), over 850 songs from 32 different video game franchises, and the classic Smash Bros. gameplay players have grown to love over the past 19 years.

Everything we've seen of the Nintendo Switch title leading up to its launch has been top-notch, leaving fans thirsty for more. From beautiful cinematic reveal trailers to showcases at gaming expos, Smash Bros. Ultimate built up a status in the public eye that is not easy to uphold.

So, does Super Smash Bros. Ultimate live up to all the hype? And how does it stack up in an era littered with other major, modern fighting titles?

We have spent the last week digging deep into the massive mountain of content and fun that is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and somehow we're still alive to tell the tale. There is so much to get to here that Justin "AdaptiveTrigger" Gordon and myself took as much time as we reasonably could — admittedly at the expense of some sleep — to put together our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate review. You probably aren't surprised to hear that unlocking characters and World of Light ate up a large chunk of our time, but more on that later.

Let's dive right into Nintendo's gargantuan crossover phenomenon, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Given the magnitude of this event, our preview has to be split up in several parts. This is the first one, but there will be two more, one covering the higher seeded players and yet another one focusing on the Last Chance Qualifier competitors who are vying for that final spot in the bracket.
