One brave artist is creating an EVO 2020 character select screen featuring every single fighter across all nine of the event's titles

However great your passion for fighting games, there's a good chance you're not quite as devoted as Cody Shaw of Vancouver, British Columbia, who is already well past the trailhead on his new mountainous endeavor.

Shaw has pledged to create one massive character select screen that will feature every last character (DLC included as it comes) that could potentially pop up on the EVO 2020 main stage. We did some calculations, and the number starts at a whopping 130 with just Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

Tekken 7 update Version 3.21 is available now with its only goal being to nerf the crap out of Leroy Smith

Mr. Leroy Smith has essentially been the biggest topic of discussion in the Tekken 7 community since his release with many believing him to be too strong for his own good, which came to a head at EVO Japan last month where six of the top 8 finalists mained him.

Bandai Namco had promised an update for the game to re-balance Leroy, and now that update is here.

Tekken 7 update Version 3.21 is now available to download across all systems, and it's only mission objective is to whack Mr. Smith and his tools upside the head with the nerf bat.

The official lineup for EVO 2020 was revealed just last week, and the fighting game community has been abuzz ever since. Tournament staples such as Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Street Fighter 5 all made the cut this time around, and a handful of surprises — such as a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 invitational event — have the people already feeling the hype.

EVO tournament organizer Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar took to Twitter this morning to update fans on the current entrant numbers for each game on the main lineup. While we don't get specific amounts here, we do have a leaderboard to show how each title is currently stacking up.

'How EVERYONE reacted to the EVO 2020 lineup' — Mighty Keef returns with another spot on and hilarious comedy skit

The EVO 2020 lineup was revealed earlier this week, and much like it always does the announcement sparked discussion within the fighting game community. NetherRealm Studios' major modern fighting title, Mortal Kombat 11, we nowhere to be found, while Marvel vs. Capcom 2 sees a return in the form of an invitational event to celebrate the game's 20th birthday and EVO legacy.

There are a lot of reactions online right now, but The Keef Crew's newest video has to be the funniest and most accurate of them all. The comedy skit shows how each game on the EVO lineup responds to the news, and there's an appearance from someone that the other games didn't really want to see...

Tekken 7 3.21 patch coming in mid-February, to include additional balance adjustments for Leroy Smith and others

While Tekken 7 certainly brought the hype last weekend at EVO Japan, a glaring issue emerged when the top eight bracket was revealed to have no less than six Leroy Smiths in it. The character was obviously overpowered (or perhaps able to copy himself like a certain other "Smith" from pop culture) and needed emergency attention.

Developers already had a patch in the works and revealed as much at the event, and while said patch did include a hefty list of nerfs for the newcomer, it was clearly not enough. Today on Twitter, Michael Murray clarified that an additional 3.21 patch is en route for next month and yet another will come out some time after.

'I'm not sure I even recognize this game anymore' - How much has Street Fighter 5 changed since Season 4 judging from EVO Japan?

On top of being a highly entertaining international major with 1,000+ entrants, EVO Japan served as one of the first major barometers with which can begin to assess Street Fighter 5's competitive direction here in 2020.

Our findings? One of us thinks this was about as good a first look as possible while the other is a little more on the pessimistic side... and I have to admit I suspected opposite reactions from the two of us.

Tekken 7 producer says the recent patch was only the first round of changes likely in response to continued concerns about Leroy

The recent Tekken 7 update provided some balance adjustments and fixes to Yoshimitsu, Leo, Shaheen, Josie, Akuma, Geese, Lei, Anna, Ganryu, and Leroy. In particular, more than half the changes were directed specifically to one of Tekken 7's latest DLC fighters, Leroy.

Since his release, Leroy is considered to be the indisputable best character in the game. It's no wonder why six players in the top eight of EVO Japan 2020 used Leroy during the Tekken 7 tournament held there.

Although the majority of these patch changes were nerfs for Leroy, many members of the community still feel like he might be too strong compared to the rest of the cast. The Tekken 7 producer, Michael Murray, recently released a statement regarding the patch, likely in response to the Leroy concerns.

Over 12 percent of Top 128 mained Leroy Smith though almost everyone saw play: Tekken 7 EVO Japan character usage statistics

It's no secret that this EVO Japan weekend was kinda all about Leroy Smith to the Tekken community after the blind martial artist made up six of the top 8 spots for finals last night, but a broader look at the game shows quite healthy representation throughout.

The top 128 players at EVO Japan for Tekken had 45 of the game's 48 characters as a main option, and while Leroy was by far the favorite, that is still an impressive feat for an event of this scale.

6 of the top 8 players left in Tekken 7 are maining Leroy Smith at EVO Japan, possibly solidifies FGC's concern that he may be too strong right now

Balancing characters in competitive fighting games is perhaps one of the most delicate processes in the entire video game industry, but Bandai Namco's Tekken team has been widely regarded as one of the most talented at making sure all of their fighters have tools to win in recent years. What do we do though when one of those characters seems to have a few tools too many?

That's the question the Tekken 7 community is grappling with this weekend, as the finals bracket for EVO Japan 2020 features six of the top 8 finalists maining newcomer Leroy Smith while many players have been concerned about his offensive and defensive prowess since the Kung Fu master launched in December.
