Masahiro Sakurai doesn't believe characters like Goku or Iron Man will ever be playable in Super Smash Bros.

The idea that certain characters would become playable in the Super Smash Bros. series has always been a meme. For example, it was always perceived that Ridley would always be relegated to the status of being a stage hazard or boss because he was "too big."

This meme was ultimately (pun intended) crushed when the murderer of Samus' parents (and apparently Mario and Mega Man too) was officially announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Unfortunately for fans of Goku and Iron Man, it seems that they'll likely never be able to break away from this meme status in the same way that Ridley was able to. Masahiro Sakurai has basically confirmed as much in his recent book.

Top Super Smash Bros. player ZeRo analyzes what makes balancing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and other series titles so difficult

The Super Smash Bros. series is a rare breed of fighting game. Despite its competitive following, the franchise brings in a massive casual audience that is larger than any other traditional competitive fighting game on the scene.

There are over 70 characters to choose from in the latest iteration, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and more on the way, which one could imagine would make things tricky when it comes to character balance. The sheer amount of fighters isn't the only problem with balancing a Smash Bros. game, though, and top-level competitor and champion Tempo|ZeRo recently released a video analyzing the intricacies of the matter.

While characters like Banjo and Kazooie, Geno from Super Mario RPG, and even Dragon Ball Z's Goku are among those most talked about, one modder recently went in a completely unexpected direction for a character choice that surprisingly worked out exceptionally well. Mario Party's Koopa Kid joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fight (as a mod) and he looks fantastic.
