'I'm excited at the thought that Street Fighter might not be the main game' - Maximilian on which EVO title should headline the event this year

EVO is a fighting game celebration that features titles from all over our niche genre of gaming, but

Considering the event's history, it feels a bit odd to be entertaining the idea that we very well may have an EVO where a Capcom game is not the headlining title. Considering the state of competitive fighters at this particular moment on the timeline, said idea also makes a lot of sense.

We're less than a month away from EVO 2019 and fans are widely unsure about which of the nine games will be played out last on Sunday evening. Maximilian has seen his fair share of EVOs, and has a few interesting thoughts on this particular matter.

Yoshitora's jumping heavy slash may be the hardest attack to block in Samurai Shodown thanks to its multi-hit cross up ability hitting both sides

Yoshitora stands out among the cast of Samurai Shodown considering he always carries around seven blades on his back which allow him to do a variety of multi-hitting moves that can prove hard to punish or block if you don't know what's up.

His jumping heavy slash can prove to be especially problematic with its ability to easily combo into big damage on hit and it's apparent cross-up properties that can actually change which side it lands on during each of the trio of slashes.

Corner camping disarmed opponents may be too effective at checkmate scenarios in Samurai Shodown

Samurai Shodown was released not too long ago. It's style of focusing almost purely on footsies and spacing rather than flashy combos is a rather unique approach compared to many of today's modern fighting games.

There do appears to be some drawbacks to the game's overall pacing in certain scenarios. For example, the game can essentially become a stalemate or checkmate situation once a player is disarmed of their weapon.
