Ed Boon practically confirms that Reptile will be revealed for Mortal Kombat 1 this weekend at Evo 2023

Leading up to Evo 2023 this weekend, NetherRealm Studios has heavily implied that we'll be seeing reveals for Mortal Kombat 1 during the massive fighting game event. Now, it looks like Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon may have practically confirmed one of the characters we can expect to see unveiled.

Those who are fans of the old school ninjas will be pleased to hear that the likelihood of Reptile being announced this weekend is now very high. This all stems from a series of tweets that Boon released yesterday that seemed to heavily hint that Reptile is set to return and specifically, will be revealed this weekend.

Marvel Comics artist Iban Coello reimagines Reptile for Mortal Kombat 1 and gets the approval of Ed Boon

At the time of writing this, Reptile has not yet been confirmed as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1. This fact hasn't stopped fans from hoping that he will be announced soon, and going a step further, some talented folks are even creating fan art imagining what he could look like in the upcoming title.

One such fan of Reptile and Mortal Kombat happens to be Marvel Comics artist Iban Coello, who recently put together some fan-made concept art that redesigns what the classic character looks like in their own vision. This artwork is so good, in fact, that it caught the attention and got the approval of Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon.

Ed Boon reveals roughly how long it will take to beat Mortal Kombat 1's story mode

Mortal Kombat 1 is just a little over a month away from release now, and though we've seen a good handful of reveals for it over the last few months, it still feels as though there's a lot we simply don't know about NetherRealm Studios' upcoming title just yet.

In an attempt to rectify that (without official reveals), Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently shared some new hints and details about the game during one of his trademark Twitter Q&A sessions. This time, Boon gave us an idea of how long it will take to complete Mortal Kombat 1's cinematic story mode.

Latest Mortal Kombat 1 trailer confirms that Baraka has a projectile and it pays homage to its appearance during the classic era

Over the weekend, Geras was revealed for Mortal Kombat 1. To demonstrate the changes to Geras' moveset in Mortal Kombat 1, Geras was shown beating up characters like Baraka, Rain, and Smoke.

Since it was Geras' trailer and time to shine, Baraka obviously didn't get too many opportunities to fight back during the trailer. Regardless, Baraka ended up unveiling a move that he did not show off during his own reveal trailer.

Jim Lee is one of the most recognizable names in the comic book space today. Aside from being the Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, Lee has illustrated some of the medium's most iconic characters.

From designing some of the most popular 90s X-Men looks to creating the Wildcats, Jim Lee's talents are among the best in the business. I say all of this to say that seeing Lee illustrate one of the most beloved fighting game characters of all time, Mortal Kombat's Kitana, is an incredible treat and doing so even caught the attention of Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon.

Mortal Kombat 1 pre-order beta test to take place on August 18 - 21, new details revealed

More Mortal Kombat 1 action is coming our way. Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have officially announced the dates for the highly anticipated upcoming pre-order beta test.

Those who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1 on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will be given access to this beta test, which we have now learned will be running from August 18 - 21.

Early pools for Evo 2023 released for all games and here's the groups to look out for in Street Fighter 6's massive event

We're just over a week away from one of the largest events in Evolution Championship Series history where multiple games have absolutely smashed entrant records — including Street Fighter 6 setting the new all-time high ever.

This Mortal Kombat 1 comparison video shows how many of Li Mei's original moves are back in the latest game

Last week during San Diego Comic Con 2023, NetherRealm Studios held a special panel that centered around their major fighting game franchise, Mortal Kombat. Though this panel was held behind closed doors and wasn't streamed, several announcements, including two reveal trailers for Mortal Kombat 1 were shown, then later shared online for everyone to see.

Mortal Kombat 1 saw the reveal of Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka as main roster playable characters, and fans were excited to see a couple of contenders from Mortal Kombat's 3D era make a return. One fan has taken a closer look at Li Mei, and in this new comparison video shows that NRS brought back several moves from her tool set in older games.

Invincible's Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 1 confirmed to be voiced by J.K. Simmons

We've been treated to two trailers for Mortal Kombat 1 over this past weekend. The first trailer revealed Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka as playable fighters within the base roster of Mortal Kombat 1.

With the second trailer, it was revealed that Omni-Man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Takeda, and Homelander were coming to Mortal Kombat 1 as DLC via the Kombat Pack 1. As confirmed by Ed Boon himself, Omni-Man is slated to be Mortal Kombat 1's first DLC combatant.

There was a sneaky chameleon hiding in the background of the latest Mortal Kombat 1 trailer

There's dozens upon dozens of Mortal Kombat characters to try and keep track of, and there's many that we hadn't seen or heard from in over a decade.

Baraka revealed to have been a respected merchant before contracting the Tarkat Disease in Mortal Kombat 1's new timeline

Just yesterday, Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka were revealed for Mortal Kombat 1. Though Li Mei and Tanya both appear to have ties to the "Umgadi" of the new timeline, Baraka backstory goes in a different direction.

In the previous timelines, Tarkatans were a species that inhabited Outworld. In this new timeline, however, Baraka and other "Tarkatans" are victims of the new "Tarkat Disease." During the trailer, Baraka ends up relaying just how dismal his situation really is.

Friday saw a ton in the way of Mortal Kombat 1 reveals at San Diego Comic Con as both the new Umgadi trailer and Kombat Pack 1 were unveiled.

In addition to the news that Baraka, Homelander, Omni-Man, Quan-Chi, and a handful of others would be joining the playable roster, Ed Boon offered a lot more juicy Mortal Kombat 1 information during the Q&A session. A lot of this had to do with the creative decisions behind MK1's emerging story and updated approaches... but he was also asked whether or not we'd see Babalities back.
