We made it a full three days before the competitive Mortal Kombat community was able to get a hot take tier list out into the ether. Pro player Tweedy has boldly decided to share his early opinions of the roster with the rest of the internet, and we figured we'd help him out a bit.
Mortal Kombat 1 has kicked off with 23 main roster members and Tweedy organizes them across four tier levels, noting that there are five characters that seem to stand above the pack and four that are currently trailing.

Though the Mortal Kombat franchise has garnered a handful of trademarks over its three decades, the over the top gory and violent Fatalities have always been the most prominent. That said, with all the excitement surrounding the new story and new modes in Mortal Kombat 1, Fatalities feel like they may or may not have quite as much focus as in the past.
Now that the game is out and we've been able to view both kill moves for all of the starting roster members, DreamKing and I have ranked our respective three best and worst Fatalities in MK1. Not only do we rank the best and worst, but also have a few takeaways in terms of a potential need for evolution when it comes to Mortal Kombat's most iconic feature.
Mortal Kombat 1 is now in the hands of players around the world, and there's a few new options that weren't available to those who had it in early access.
One such added feature is the ability to skip the grind needed to unlock Havik and the additional 5 Kameo fighters, which is of course instead handled with your wallet.
Mortal Kombat 1 joined many other new games now with the push to a $70 MSRP, but maybe not if you know where to look.
Although the fighter just officially hit store shelves yesterday, Prospective players can currently save up to $30 on MK1 or other big video game releases from this year.
Mortal Kombat 1 was recently released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, only the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions of the game were developed by NetherRealm Studios themselves.
Needless to say, there are some... interesting differences with the Switch port of Mortal Kombat 1. As pointed out in our Mortal Kombat 1 review roundup, Mortal Kombat 1 for the Nintendo Switch scored considerably lower compared to other versions of the game.
Mortal Kombat 1 was recently released for everyone. Though it's only been a day since the game became officially available, the most hardcore of players were able to play a week early as a perk for pre-ordering the Premium and Kollector's Editions.
Over the course over numerous NetherRealm Studios titles, EG|SonicFox has been proven to be one of the most dominant fighting game players ever. It would seem that SonicFox has already labeled five characters as being top tier in Mortal Kombat 1.
Some Mortal Kombat fans will argue that Brutalities have become more interesting and creative in recent games over Fatalities, and it's hard not to agree after seeing some of the new ones.
Whoever was in charge of coming up with Johnny Cage's Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1 especially seemed to be having too much fun with how crazy his finishers are compared to the rest of the cast.
Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack has already been revealed to put its focus on comic book baddies like The Boys' Homelander and DC's Peacemaker, but perhaps things could have been very different if one or two things changed.
MK Co-creator Ed Boon recently joined Rolling Stone for an interview for the launch of the new game where he revealed NetherRealm Studios had indeed tried getting John Wick in on the action.
This year's wild level of high quality video game releases just keeps on trucking along, and there's no stopping NetherRealm Studios on their latest fighting game blockbuster.
With Mortal Kombat 1 now hitting its full release, we've gone back and rounded up the major reviews for the fighter across all its available platforms.
Mortal Kombat 1 was recently released. This is certainly a game of possibilities as there are 23 fighters to start with on the base roster (Shang Tsung as a pre-order bonus and Havik as an unlockable), and 15 Kameo characters.
As one could probably imagine, certain Kameos are going to better than others when paired with specific characters. It turns out that Jax is an especially strong choice when paired with Scorpion as it allows for a 100% touch of death sequence that doesn't even require the usage of a Fatal Blow.
Mortal Kombat 1 officially drops on Tuesday September 19, but people who pre-ordered the Premium Edition are already getting to enjoy the latest brutal, bloody chapter of combat. EG|SonicFox, the strongest competitive Mortal Kombat player to date, already has his teeth in and is thus already sharing some incredible tech.
Though there are many clips featuring many different characters on Fox's Twitter timeline already, one has been getting quite a lot more traction than any other. Said clip features blind swordsman Kenshi and his potential to put foes into repeated mix ups that seem to all but guarantee an eventual opening.
Mortal Kombat 1 is officially out now and there are a fresh batch of characters and moves to learn. The biggest and bloodiest of all the moves are the Fatalities, and similar to previous Mortal Kombat titles, you can still put an accent mark on your wins by firing off one of these powerful cinematic finishers.
But how do you perform these Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities? Well, this guide here will teach you how to perform all of the current Fatalities as well as the Kameo Fighter Fatalities for every character that is currently playable.
Mortal Kombat 1 is already in the hands of most of the hardcore fans since the game was made available on September 14, 2023 for those that pre-ordered the Premium and Kollector's Editions of the game. As it is typical with new fighting games, it would appear that the developers have accidently left references to characters not yet announced within the game's code for dataminers to discover.
However, it should be noted that we already knew about the Kombat Pack's Omni-Man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Takeda Takahashi, and Homelander before Mortal Kombat 1 was released. In other words, what's been reportedly found within the files of Mortal Kombat 1 suggests which characters could be planned as DLC after the Kombat Pack has been released.
Mortal Kombat 1 recently became playable for those that pre-ordered the Premium and Kollector's Editions of the game. We're still very much in the discovery phase of this new fighter, so there's still a lot that has yet to be uncovered.
Of course, this means that there are Brutalities within the game that many of us haven't seen yet. Evidently, it can become quite a hysterical scene once one of these surprise Brutalities are unveiled for all to see. This is exactly what happened in a clip captured by Cory Thalion.
Being a tournament organizer is a pretty thankless job for a multitude of reasons including the fact that they need to make sure a bunch of copies of the same game are fully up to date and ready to go for events.
Mortal Kombat 1 doesn't have all characters and Kameo fighters unlocked from the start, so CEO and CEOtaku TO Alex Jebailey recently decided to "speedrun" the game to see how long it takes to unlock them for tournament use.
Graphics are at their most pristine in the brand new Mortal Kombat 1 as NetherRealm Studios developers have hit us with a ton of gruesome trademark Fatalities, but one easily stands out above the rest.
Perhaps it's that there are only so many ways to slice, dice, smash, burn, and otherwise demolish a human body, but while MK1 definitely has some creative kill moves, few actually move us much. That said, there's one that we've seen plenty of times before (that's an unintended pun in and of itself) that still captures our attention more than any other.
