Phoenix Wright and Vergil added due to popularity, but Nemesis a last minute replacement? - Niitsuma gives more insight into UMvC3 character choices

Ryota Niitsuma has taken to Twitter once more to explain what went down during the development of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and this time he's focusing on the Capcom side of the roster.

First up, we're going to detail the choices he did end up putting in the game, though look forward to a bunch of unfortunate cuts in a future story. First, let's hear what he had to say about the incredibly popular Phoenix Wright.

Phoenix Wright: He was the most requested character after we released Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and he's a really popular character, so we wanted to take him on as a challenge. His lines were supervised by Mr. Taku from Honke D.

I vividly remember feeling "Wow, this is totally what Phoenix Wright would say!", with warm emotion inside me.

Continue below to hear about the other Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, except for Firebrand, who has been detailed by Niitsuma in the past.

It was a very close race that came down to the wire. Pokken Tournament and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were neck-and-neck throughout the entirety of the donation drive, and the end result was a close one.

At this time, we are waiting on confirmation from the EVO staff whether or not UMvC3 will secure the 9th spot on the event's line up. Though the game raised the most money, all of the numbers will likely have to be tallied and potential false donations may need to be weeded out.

Yipes - It's crazy that EVO has the audacity to not give Marvel a proper send off; angrily explains why UMvC3 should be at EVO 2017

For the first time in EVO history, we may see a line up that fails to include a Marvel vs. Capcom game.

EVO 2017 has eight fighting game titles on its line up: Street Fighter 5, Guilty Gear Revelator 2, Smash Bros. for Wii U, Injustice 2, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Tekken 7 and King of Fighters 14. One of nine other titles will be included as well, determined by community donation to Make a Wish.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is on this nine game list, and is currently winning with $18,327 with Pokken Tournament in a close second place with $16,034.

Michael "IFC Yipes" Mendoza, a prominent member of the Marvel community for years, expressed exceeding levels of disappointment in EVO for not including UMvC3. In a recent stream he explained how Marvel was integral in getting EVO off the ground, and offers his opinions on why UMvC3 should not have to fight its way onto the lineup.

'At some point, especially at EVO, where they boo me—it takes a toll, but that turns into my passion' - ChrisG on rough times and rolling with changes

Love or hate him, there's no denying that EG|ChrisG is one of the most talented fighting game players to compete in tournament play.

Though he's most known for his god-status in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Christopher Gonzales seems to be able to crack top eight brackets in virtually any of the many games he chooses to enter at major tournaments.

During Gonzales' rise to the top of the fighting game ranks, he garnered something of a villainous persona in a good portion of the community eye. Recent times have seen more boos replaced with cheers, but in a recent interview with The Hundreds the Marvel master offered a seldom shared insight into his perspective on things.

"At some point, especially at EVO, where they boo me—it takes a toll on you," said Chris, "But that turns into my passion. You start to realize, no matter how good you do, there’s going to be someone that doesn’t like it."

Did Vergil just perform a Hyper Combo with less than a full bar of meter? Tyrant reveals apparent visual bug in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

While playing Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 recently UM|Tyrant found that he could actually perform Vergil's Hyper Combo without technically having a full bar of meter.

In UMvC3 when a character completes a meter, the meter itself at the bottom of the screen clicks up to a higher number and changes color. In Tyrant's case, the number is still very clearly at a blue "0" when the Hyper Combo comes out.

Tyrant took a video of the happening to share with the rest of us so we could help try to make sense of it:

Nova uses his float glitch, Dr. Strange hits for a million damage and Frank West has zombie loops in 'Infinite Creativity' a UMvC3 combo video

We're greatly anticipating the drop of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite later this year, but never will we forget the unbridled hype Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 brought to the FGC time and time again.

Today we're featuring a combo video that highlights a few characters less seen in tournament play. Seeing as we very commonly get highlights of Dr. Doom, Zero, Virgil and Dante, watching combos from characters like Felicia, Frank West, Taskmaster and Tron are a bit of a breath of fresh air.

A YouTuber by the name of Username Pending has put together an excellent video with some pretty awesome combos. Check out this one million damage combo by Doctor Strange in two parts:

Blade and Spider-Woman too similar to existing characters, Psylocke fell just short - Niitsuma on UMvC3 choices, including Cloak & Dagger and more

Following up on his previous tweets, Niitsuma once again took to Twitter to explain their rationale for some of the choices that made the cut, and some that didn't, for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I, EventHubs' very own Nicholas "MajinTenshinhan" Taylor, took the time to translate them for your perusing pleasure, and you can check out the ones who did make the cut here.

Nova: Even in the vanilla version of MvC3, Marvel were pushing very hard for us to include him, and told us "he HAS to be in the next one".

Ghost Rider: Well, he really is very popular and famous. We also figured we'd just use his bike in one of his supers, which made him much easier to implement.

Dr. Strange: He was pushed very strongly from Marvel's side. We also thought he'd be fun to make, since there's a lot of moveset potential with "magic" as a base.

Rocket Raccoon: We were actually consideirng Squirrel Girl at the time, but when he was brought up it turned out we had way more raccoon fans than squirrel fans at the office, so we went with him.

Continue below to hear about some who did not end up making it into the game, and why.

Every UMvC3 character KO'd in a split second - you've heard of a 'Happy Birthday' in Marvel vs. Capcom, but what about a 'Happy New Year'?

In honor of it being the first day of the new year, we wanted to share a humorous clip that Lythero recently uploaded.

It shows all six members of a Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 match being KO'd in a split second, something he referred to as a 'Happy New Year'.

This is just a fun and lighthearted piece to help get your 2017 off to a good start.

Did Marvel vs. Capcom 3's promotional trailers give us a taste of what Infinite's cinematic story mode might be like?

Although we didn't end up seeing anything of the sort in the actual game, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 had a pretty intense advertising campaign with story-themed trailers showing the various characters from the game interacting with eachother.

What's more interesting is that these trailers actually were interwoven with eachother, and when viewed together tell an admittedly simple but still entertaining story.

In case you've forgotten these gems, or maybe never even saw them in the first place, we've gathered them together below for your viewing pleasure.
