King of Fighters stories

PC Mods: Kolin dresses up as Elsa from Frozen and Kula Diamond from King of Fighters

You might remember a costume that Kolin got that made a reference to Disney's Frozen. It seems that TiggieWhite has gone the extra mile to make Kolin look like Elsa.

Frozen is a movie that has definitely been popular with children. I suppose it's not much of a surprise to hear that Frozen will be appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3.

This is a mod that actually makes a lot of sense. Both Kolin and Elsa have icy abilities. Of course, fighting game fans are probably aware of another female that fits this description.

THEJAMK created a mod that dresses Kolin up as King of Fighter's Kula Diamond. This particular character will also be appearing in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy.

These mods have been highlighted on the PC Best Mods YouTube channel. Definitely worth checking out.

Be sure to let us know your thoughts about these mods in the comments section.

From Darkstalkers to Street Fighter, Xa-Xa-Xa's fighting game art is somehow both cartoonish and sexy at the same time

Today's fighting game artist spotlight comes from Lille, France as we take a closer look at the work of Xa-Xa-Xa as he brings us some personalized versions of our favorite fighting game combatants.

You'll quickly notice he's a fan of the feminine form as most of his work consists of the ladies of fighting games... not that we're complaining at all.

Xa's art has a very cartoonish style to it, often portraying a lot of his subjects' emotions through somewhat exaggerated eyes. You'll likely be drawn first to the ocular regions as they set the mood for each image.

Despite being toon-like in nature, these characters are most definitely easy on the eyes as some pose in rather risque manners.

The gallery includes fighters from Darkstalkers, King of Fighters, Street Fighter and Sofitia from Soul Calibur, though there isn't a huge amount of character variety as Xa very obviously has his favorites... not that we're complaining at all.

If you like what you see here then please hit up the artist's DeviantArt page for more of his wonderfully stylized work.

Damn... these 'reasons' why people don't play certain fighting games are brutal and really funny

Name any fighting game, any one that ever existed, and you've undoubtedly heard someone give their "reasons" for not playing it or why it's no good.

Whether it be too noob friendly or wasn't released on the right console, people love to complain about things in the fighting game community. All of us do it, whether we're willing to admit it or not. (Menat's standing heavy punch is cheap and totally unfair!)

Reddit user XXXCheckmate recently put together a graphic that lists some of the most common complaints about many of today's most popular fighting games. They're brutal, funny as hell, and a very accurate depiction of the stuff you'll come across online and in real life.

Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7, Injustice 2, Dragon Ball FighterZ, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, none of these games are safe from the ax, and they're all included here.

"Top 8 is all the same," "F U N C T I O N S," "half the roster is Goku," are among some of the classic complaints we see regularly. I also have to give it up for "no Testament, no invest-ament," because that's pretty darn good.

At the end of the day, it's all in good fun. Everyone is still going to play the games they love, despite the criticism. Unless it's that one Sailor Moon fighting game, then everyone is going to play it because it's perfect...

The weekend is almost here, so relax a little and read over these funny complaints to share a laugh with us.

LiangHubbb's 'Rip Life Bar' series shows just how quickly a fighting game match can snowball in Street Fighter 4, Tekken 7, and King of Fighters

Momentum is a powerful thing in fighting games. Things can very quickly spiral out of control for a player with just one sequence.

If one is not careful, said player will lose their entire health bar despite having a huge advantage in a match. This tends to be the nature of fighting games.

LiangHuBBB has created a series titled "Rip Life Bar" that depicts many of these moments. We often see a near full health bar completely depleted in a matter of seconds.

Keep in mind that these don't necessarily have to be 80 - 90% damage combos. A large number of these sequences actually utilize several resets that the opponent was not able to defend against.

Sequences shown are for Ultra Street Fighter 4, Tekken 7, King of Fighters 13, and King of Fighters 14. In the cases of Akuma and Geese Howard in Tekken 7, these characters have the ability to perform combos — without resets — that pretty much destroy a character at full health.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is the latest game coming from the storied game developer as a 2v2, female exclusive fighting game featuring simplified controls and many customization options due out later this year.

The title's newest trailer reveals that the story of the game takes place shortly after the end of the tournament in the King of Fighters 14 with the ladies being transported to a mysterious land and tasked with participating in a "special event" designed to extract fear.

Dragon Gal's Mui Mui was recently revealed as the newest character of SNK Heroines, but we still have one character yet to be revealed which appears to be a female version of Terry Bogard according to the game's trophies.

Dragon Gal's Mui Mui joins the SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy roster

Another new character reveal dropped this morning this time from SNK. Mui Mui has been announced as a playable character in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy.

In the 2v2 team fighting title, Mui Mui wears a frilly dress as her default look. She also has a panda outfit and her classic costume that pulls straight from the King of Fighters and Dragon Gal series.

In the trailer, we see that Mui Mui has an air dash and appears to have great mobility. She's also combo-heavy, so if you're looking to swag on your opponents you might want to add Mui Mui to your team.

Though her official reveal trailer was released today, we learned of Mui Mui's inclusion on the SNK Heroines roster by way of the game's trophies about two weeks ago. The trophy list prompts players to clear story mode with certain characters, and among those missions we saw Mui Mui and someone named "Terry" listed -- which we believe is Terry Bogard in female form.

SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy will have 14 playable characters at launch (again, according to the game's trophies), and we have now seen 13 of them officially revealed. The only remaining mystery is Terry.

If you're looking to play SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, you'll be able to do so by picking it up on either PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch on September 7th, 2018.

Moonarc's more realistic approach to fighting game females sees them less exaggerated, but just as beautiful as ever

Audia Pahlevi is an Indonesian artist that goes by the handle "Moonarc," and we have a selection featuring some of her fighting game work to share with you.

If you were to check out Pahlevi's (somewhat NSFW) Deviant Art page you'd find a vast gallery of characters from all over the pop culture world, but it seems she's got a special affinity for the ladies of fighting titles.

Here we see characters such as Zero Suit Samus Aran, Cammy White, Juri Han, Morrigan Aensland, Psylocke, Sophitia Alexandra and others. The fighting game titles include Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Super Smash Bros., Darkstalkers, Marvel vs. Capcom and Soul Calibur.

Moonarc tends to go with a softer, semi-realistic style that's gentle on the eyes and tends to avoid some of the rather ridiculous proportions video game characters tend to have.

My personal favorite might be Bayonetta because I like her face more than the others, though I find myself revisiting the thinner than usual Morrigan image over and over.

There are also a few chrome femme fatales which obviously command a whole different kind of focus. Let us know which of these were your favorites and why in the comments.

Faces, functions, on disc DLC and more, Curse Entertainment recounts the biggest fighting game faux pas over the last seven years

The fighting game community entered something of a golden age after 2009's release of Street Fighter 4 and a handful of subsequent successful titles, but it's been a real roller coaster of ups and downs since then.

There's no question that we've seen some incredible growth and development through franchises old and new, but one can only imagine where we could be if it weren't for some monumental missteps that have slowed and even buried games that had incredible potential.

Curse Entertainment has put together a video examining some of these issues so as to keep them at the forefront of our thoughts lest we make them again.

Some such mistakes were eventually corrected leaving just a few non-fatal scars as in the case of King of Fighters 14's initial visuals or Street Fighter 5's shoddy launch. Other titles were not so lucky, as Street Fighter X Tekken and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite would never be able to recover from their respective failures despite some eventual corrections.

Not to be a total Debbie Downer, Curse also takes some time to highlight the successes of franchises like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct, both of which have seen major successes in various avenues.

As the scene continues to expand to new heights on both the casual and competitive levels we hope to learn to better cross our "T's" and dot our "i's." Continue on to check out the video and let us know what you think after you're done.

Terry Bogard will be looking a bit different in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy... because he will very likely be a girl

Terry Bogard and Mui Mui were leaked as the final two characters coming to SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy due to the game's PlayStation trophies appearing online ahead of the game's release. Heroines, you may be asking yourself, doesn't that mean girl fighters? You would be correct in that assumption.

The problem with Terry's inclusion in SNK Heroines is the fact that... he's a guy except that looks to not exactly be true for this female-dominated title as the character's portrait will suggest.

There is poster artwork for SNK Heroines that shows all of its 14 launch characters including the silhouettes of who we now know to be be Fatal Fury's Terry and Mui Mui, and neither of the shadowy figures appears to be male let alone large in stature as we've come to know Mr. Bogard.

The silhouette at the top has long hair that looks to be in a pony-tail with their hand reached up to their forehead likely grabbing the bill of their cap as Terry is known to do. They also appear to be wearing a vest similar to Terry's trademark look with a quite feminine figure.

SNK has done something similar with SNK Gals' Fighters (2000) where-in Iori Yagami dressed up as a girl and went by the name 'Miss X' as the game's antagonist though everyone could see through his disguise. Terry's new look appears to be much more than a costume, however.

Another possibility is a character like Alice taking the moniker of the Fatal Fury hero in SNK Heroines, but either way it appears that "Terry" will be female in the game. You can take a look at the game's roster poster with Terry and Mui Mui's silhouettes in the gallery below with a comparison between male and female Terry.

Terry Bogard and Mui Mui are joining the SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy roster, the game's trophies reveal

It looks like SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy has had its final two characters leaked. Dragon Gal's Mui Mui and Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard are set to join the fray.

This information comes from a listing of the game's trophies over on PSN Profiles. As one might expect from a fighting game's trophies, there are several that are tied to clearing the story mode with certain characters.

Each of these story-based trophies asks you to clear the mode with two specific characters: "clear the story using Luong and Shermie," for example. "Want to join Team Women Fighters?!" prompts players to finish the story mode with Terry and Yuri, while "Soo…Where should we go eat?" asks the same for Mui Mui and Mian.

The trophy list also confirms that there will be 14 characters at launch. This makes Terry and Mui Mui the final two.

Both Mui Mui and Terry most recently made appearances in King of Fighters 14 as playable characters.

Considering SNK Heroines is a celebration of the company's greatest female characters, it's interesting to see Terry join the fight. Perhaps we'll see him make an appearance in a similar manner to "Miss X," the boss character of SNK Gals' Fighters (2000) who happened to be Iori Yagami dressed as a woman.

You can check out the trophies for SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy below.
