Controversial SNK Allstar advertisement tarnishes Terry Bogard's family-friendly reputation, SNK removes and distances themselves from commercial

When licensing out a company's iconic characters to advertise or promote something else, it's important to be very careful as to how everything is used / portrayed, but even then there are things that still slip through the cracks.

A new SNK Allstar advertisement sparked controversy quickly after the commercial appeared online which featured poster boy Terry Bogard performing acts that many deemed offensive and uncharacteristic of the fighting game legend โ€” and SNK seemed none too pleased by it as well.

This weird King of Fighters glitch makes Maxima look like he needs an exorcism

The early King of Fighters games are some of the most iconic in fighting game history though with that many characters and teams to juggle, there's going to be some bugs that ended up slipping through the cracks during development.

Resident fighting game glitch master D-NO recently shared a fun bug from KOF '99 between Maxima and Whip that causes the massively tall fighter to spin like he's been placed on a turntable.

There are so many great fighting games this generation to choose from that it becomes hard to decide which ones to pick up and put time into, but digital sales make it pretty easy to add to our collections and backlogs.

Artist draws extra buff versions of ladies from fighting game titles like Street Fighter and Fatal Fury

You needn't see E. Honda's sumo abs more than once to realize that fighting game characters are almost always designed to be considerably more muscular than your average Joe Schmo, but one Japanese artist has taken things a full step further and imagined some of the ladies of Street Fighter (along with a few other titles) as incredibly cut body builders.

This might not be for everyone, but we get to see the likes of Cammy, Makoto, Alice, Sakura, and others as though they hit the heavy weights on the regular. Continue on to see the impressive work of Shopyun.

Safe for work Mai, not as safe for work Mai, Wii-Fit Mai, Hsien-Ko Jam, and other fighting game beauties feature in this wonderful gallery from Phamoz

Along with the likes of Cammy, Morrigan, and Chun-Li, King of Fighters' Mai Shiranui is one of the most commonly drawn fighting game characters in the business. Zoma Phamoz takes a few creative passes at the fan-wielding fighter in some of their recent illustrations, and we thought they were more than good enough to share.

Though she's the most prevalent, Mai by far isn't the only character represented in our roundup as figures from Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and even Skullgirls strut their stuff as well.

Japanese artist draws beautiful versions of Street Fighter and King of Fighters characters

We came for the Akira but we stayed for the SNK. That pretty much sums up our experience with Otsudou, a Japanese artist and fighting game fan who is currently developing a portfolio.

We've put together a brief gallery of some of Otsudou's work including the aforementioned Akira, who hails from Rival Schools but is now slated to guest star in Street Fighter 5 next year, as well as Ibuki, Rock Howard, Benimaru, Terry Bogard, and Kyo Kusanagi of King of Fighters fame.

Who are the ten mainstay characters of King of Fighters who haven't missed a single game since their first appearance? Some omissions may surprise you

With King of Fighters 15 on the horizon, one of the main things on everyone's mind is of course which characters are going to make it. It's no wonder โ€” SNK has some of the most iconic fighting game characters known to man, and more importantly they have a heavily rotating roster, with instances of highly popular characters not appearing for over 10 years from time to time. When talking with a friend, I started thinking about who are the actual mainstays of the King of Fighters series โ€” the ones who never miss a single game. This made me sit down and actually research which characters this applies to, and the results were actually shocking for a few of them.

Of course, you can't count instances of a character who was introduced in a later game not showing up in King of Fighters '94 (it's difficult to appear before you even exist, after all), but even with that rule in mind, there was just one single character who was introduced after King of Fighters '94 who's managed to stay a part of the main series' roster in every title since then. As you can see from the banner, highly popular characters like K', Mai Shiranui, Kula Diamond and Leona Heidern who showed up a few games into the series have actually each been removed from at least one title after their inclusion.

King of Fighters 15 is still officially slated for 2020, but I really don't think a release this year seems realistic for SNK's next fighting game

King of Fighters 15 has been in the works for a while at this point and been in the public eye for at least the last year or so, gaining traction with fans ever since last year's EVO (which was almost exactly a year ago) where SNK showed off the game's logo during a cavalcade of Samurai Shodown news. What a lot of people may not remember, though, is that SNK actually confirmed development and officially announced during an investor relations meeting that King of Fighters 15 was coming as far back as December of 2018.

While they didn't specify anything about the game at that time, and indeed they haven't done so in the year that's passed since the logo unveiling in Las Vegas either, they did list a 2020 release date for it at the time. With us being halfway through 2020 and still not having seen even an image of the game outside of the logo, it's seeming increasingly likely that the game must have been delayed to at least next year. Let's take a look at the realities affecting King of Fighters 15 and its proposed retail date for this year and what may be working for and against said release window still holding true.

Debut trailer for The King of Fighters: Awaken film released

SNK has built up The King of Fighters series for almost three decades now, filling their titles with lore that's a pretty great fit for exploring further in other forms of media.

The King of Fighters: Awaken looks to take advantage of all of that history, as the first trailer for the upcoming CG movie has now been released and takes the franchise back to its past.
