Injustice 2's premier skins open new opportunities to include characters in fighting games - Will Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite do the same?

After a long information drought, we finally got a huge chunk of Injustice 2 news from NetherRealm Studios earlier this week, which included something very interesting - premier skins for Supergirl, Green Lantern and The Flash.

What these skins do is turn them into completely different characters from the DC Universe, with their own voice work, their own character-exclusive dialogue and an entirely different appearance. This is a splendid solution to include characters who may be a tad too similar to each other to justify being separate characters, but still make both fan-bases happy.

Although something like this could potentially be used for fighting games that aren't based on comic books or similar intellectual properties, the possibilities for these huge franchise fighters based on stuff like DC Comics or Marvel Comics are truly astounding.

But here comes the important question - Will Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite follow suit? And other games besides it, as well? There's no way to tell, but let's explore the potential this could hold.

RUMOR: Swamp Thing? Doctor Fate? Scarecrow? This supposed Injustice 2 leak list might just be the real deal after the last few days...

We saw some big stuff from Injustice 2 earlier this week, after a long period of silence, where they confirmed Robin (Damian Wayne) and Brainiac as playable, teased Bane and Poison Ivy as playable and confirmed that Reverse-Flash, John Stewart and Power Girl will show up in the game as premium costumes for existing characters.

Now, here's where it gets interesting. A supposed leak list was posted in early December in a 4chan thread, and they actually got every single one of these characters - including the premium costumes - right.

At EventHubs, we very rarely post any form of rumors or leaks unless there's solid proof that they have legitimate inside information, but with 7 rights in one day, we kind of have to give this one a second look.

So, if one were to assume that this list is correct, who else can we expect to see in the full game? Continue below to find out.

Although he'd already been shown briefly in the cinematic reveal trailer for the game, we have yet to see any sign of The Flash since then - until now.

Today, the official site for Injustice 2 updated a character section which included The Flash, confirming that it is Barry Allen we'll see and what his motivations in the game are, as well as a look at his in-game appearance. Check it out here.

Nine DLC characters headed to Injustice 2 - pricing information confirms Green Lantern playable, shows three alternate costumes and more

Injustice 2 is the talk of the town today as Warner Bros. and NetheRealm Studios have given fans a lot of new information about the game to take in.

On May 16th, players will be able to choose between three different purchase options for Injustice 2: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition. Standard is simply a copy of the game and will run for $59.99 USD, but the other two packages include some pretty excellent extras.

Purchasing the Deluxe Edition gives you access to three DLC fighters as they become available, one premier skin that transforms Supergirl into Powergirl, and one exclusive gear shader pack to alter the look of your roster. This will run you $79.99 USD.

The Ultimate Edition is definitely going to turn some heads, though. This special package costs $99.99 USD and comes with three premier skins -- Powergirl (Supergirl), Reverse Flash (Flash), and John Stewart (Green Lantern) -- two gear shader packs, and access to a whopping nine DLC characters as they are released.

Thanks to the PlayStation Store on PS4 consoles, we've got a nifty info-graphic explaining the purchase options.

Robin and Brainiac confirmed playable in Injustice 2, new in-game screenshots show both in action

The Injustice 2 story mode trailer was released earlier this morning, and arrived jam-packed with familiar DC Comics faces.

Though we saw the likes of Robin, Bane, Poison Ivy, and Brainiac featured in the cinematic trailer, two of them have actually been confirmed as playable this morning by way of in-game screenshots. As you can see in the images below, Brainiac is in the middle of what appears to be his fight intro and Robin is taking on Blue Beetle.

We haven't seen screenshots of Poison Ivy or Bane just yet, so although it is likely that they are also playable in Injustice 2, we can't say for certain at this point in time.

Injustice 2 drops on May 16th, 2017.

Injustice 2 story mode trailer released, officially reveals Darkseid

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have released a brand new story mode trailer for Injustice 2.

The video features several characters that we've seen in-game already, such as Superman, Batman, and Supergirl, but also shows a handful that have not yet been officially revealed. Injustice 2 continues the cinematic story introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies join forces to rebuild society, while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. This time around, a new threat has emerged.

Additionally, the trailer confirms the release of Darkseid as a playable DLC character. Previously, the DC villain was leaked as a pre-order bonus on the PlayStation Store, and today's trailer reinforces that.

'Tragic events can bring out the dark side in anyone' - Ed Boon shares another hint of tomorrow's Injustice 2 announcement

Last week, Ed Boon took to Twitter to tell fans that an Injustice 2 reveal is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th and give a quick hint at what's to come. The time is almost here, and the Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios has sent out another cryptic tweet.

Boon posted a tweet earlier this morning showing another clip of what appears to be Superman mourning the death of a loved one. As a follow up, we also got a tweet saying "Tragic events can bring out the dark side in anyone," with a hashtag saying "you see what I did there?" to close it out.

You can see both below.

Tomorrow should be a big day for Injustice 2 fans, as we haven't seen an official reveal since around August of last year. Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios' blockbuster DC hero brawler is set for launch on Ed Boon on Twitter.

Darkseid supposedly leaked as Injustice 2's pre-order bonus character, similar to Goro for Mortal Kombat X

Over Twitter, Maximilian pointed out that Darkseid will be the pre-order bonus character of Injustice 2 similar to the role Goro played for Mortal Kombat X.

For those that don't recall, the way it worked was that a code was given to players that pre-ordered the game that unlocked Goro for free at launch. For those that did not, they would have to pay an additional fee in order to unlock Goro.

In Injustice 1, we only saw Darkseid as part of a stage transition and at the end of certain individual character story modes. It's worth noting that even though Goro was available at launch, Goro was not apart of the game's main story mode.

Hopefully Darkseid will have an impact on the story mode, unlike what Goro was to Mortal Kombat X's story.

Maximilian's top five character wish list for Injustice 2 gets a nod from series Director, Ed Boon

After quite a long stand of silence, we finally have a release date for the highly anticipated Injustice 2.

The DC Comics-based fighting game will be dropping on May 16th this year, and the news has fans buzzing once again about who they'd like to see playable.

Maximilian contributed to said buzz with a recent video in which he listed the five characters he most wants to see pop up in the new fighter. His choices are interesting in and of themselves, but series creator Ed Boon actually tweeted the video out yesterday, causing us to scratch our beards just a little bit more.

Give the list a look over and let us know if you think they're good picks as well as who else you'd hope to see in Injustice 2.

Did Wonder Woman just do instant air Lightning Legs? These awesome fighting game nods from Justice League: Action are filled with references

I had my doubts when I saw the thumbnails and headlines for these clips from the new Justice League: Action series, but I have to say I was thoroughly impressed after watching them.

With interactable backgrounds, stage transitions, super moves and the fact that we're literally dealing with characters from Injustice, these sequences actually do justice, (no pun intended) to the fighting game genre.

Check out Wonder Woman's Super, which shouts out Zangief's special as well as Injustice's elaborate cinematic sequences:

Supergirl and Wonder Woman received facelifts in Injustice 2; Vesper Arcade takes a closer look at updated appearances

It's been relatively quiet for some time on the Injustice 2 front, but a recent video from IGN detailing the gameplay approach for Supergirl has broken the silence.

In addition to hearing how the young superheroine will play, we also saw that NetherRealm Studios have been adjusting facial appearances for at least some of the game's characters since the initial reveals a few months back.

Vesper Arcade has taken a closer look at these alterations in his latest video, which you can view after the jump. We took some screen shots from the older build and from the new IGN video to show the change to both Supergirl and Wonder Woman:
