Havik surprisingly turned out to be the most popular fighter in the top 16 at CEOtaku 2023's Mortal Kombat 1 tournament
Mortal Kombat 1 was recently released worldwide. As such, over 100 players signed up to compete at the Mortal Kombat 1 tournament being held at CEOtaku 2023, providing our first real glance at how the game's meta is shaping up.
Looking at the top 16 performing players at the event, there were only 10 characters out of 23 that were used. Additionally, only one player used a secondary, which happens to be Shang Tsung's only appearance in the top 16.
Surprisingly, Havik ended up being the most popular character in the top 16 with four users. Additionally, three of these four Havik users were able to make it into the top 8 portion of the bracket.
This is particularly interesting as Havik hasn't really been considered as a top tier combatant just yet. In fact, has thus far been labeled as potentially being mid tier or lower.
Baraka ended up being the second most popular combatant within the top 16 portion of the bracket. A total of three players used Baraka by this point. Baraka is often labeled as a top 5 contender, especially when paired with Cyrax.
Ashrah and Mileena each had two players apiece that made it this far into the bracket. Funnily enough, the winners side of the top 8 part of the bracket at this moment is to feature a Ashrah mirror match, followed by a Havik mirror match.
