The Xenomorph may not be in Mortal Kombat 1, but one of Shang Tsung's Fatalities is definitely an Alien reference
Back in Mortal Kombat X, fans were lucky enough to get both the Xenomorph and Predator in the same fighting game in pretty awesome fashion.
Though they may be gone in Mortal Kombat 1, that doesn't mean there still won't be Alien references to be found.
The new launch trailer for MK1 appeared to feature one such callback with Shang Tsung's Fatality at the very end.
The mad sorcerer slams his victim down on the experiment table before he rips an opening all the way down their chest.
Shang Tsung then pours a glowing liquid into the wound, which bubbles for a few seconds until a long serpent bursts from within and attacks the victim's face.
This seems to be a pretty obvious reference to the Chestburster stage of the Xenomorphs where they do just as their name suggests.
That Shang Tsung fatality is so cinematic..I love it! 🐉#MortalKombat1 pic.twitter.com/EmmtvsNMwN

His serpent is technically longer and doesn't exactly bust out of a closed chest, but that's about as close as you can get without facing potential copyright infringement.
We've seen plenty of references to past Fatalities like Cyrax blowing up the entire world, so it's going to be very interesting to see what sort of outside references they manage to pack into these brutal scenes too for the new game.
Plus with Johnny Cage on the roster, you can expect a ton of movie references to be all over the place with his intros, quips and interactions with other characters.
And then there's going to be the actual crossovers coming in Kombat Pack 1 with Invincible's Omni-Man, The Boys' Homelander and DC's Peacemaker to add even more fuel to the fire in the future.
Mortal Kombat 1 releases tomorrow, September 14, in early access for those who've pre-ordered the Premium or Kollector's Editions while the full release is coming on September 19 for everyone on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Just don't expect cross-platform play to be there at launch unfortunately.
