NetherRealm Studios finally provides update on Kross-Play in Mortal Kombat 1

The time for Mortal Kombat 1's impending arrival is rapidly approaching, and there's still just a bit more to talk about the game before then.

After basically staying silent on the matter for months, NetherRealm Studios has finally provided something of an update to fans on the status of cross-platform play in MK1.

"Launch is just around the corner and we can't wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1," reads the official Mortal Kombat tweet. "Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch."

This is unfortunately the same basic answer that NRS gave us all the way back when MK1 was first unveiled since their FAQ page stated cross-play and / or cross-progression would be coming after the release.

That was made muddy, however, when they quickly removed that bit of info from the page and then never really mentioned it again aside from saying that it wouldn't be in the online stress or beta tests.

Conspicuously, they make no reference to the platforms Kross-Play will be available on, so the other big question remains.

Will it be coming to PC alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?

Warner Bros. made it seem that way when they added the cross-platform play tag to MK1's page on Steam, but that was taken down after just a few days.

Since the new game is not being ported to PC directly by NetherRealm but rather QLOC, that's remained the big question on prospective players' minds, so it kinda sucks to see them still dodging around the answer — which in itself may be telling.

Mortal Kombat 11 similarly added Kross-Play after launch, and it was only for PlayStation and Xbox owners (so the precedent is there already).

Hopefully it won't take them eight months to release the update like they did last time.

Interestingly, there's no mention of cross-progression either, so we don't know if that'll end up being a thing eventually in MK1 or not too.

For the PC players out there, Nvidia has now released official driver support for Mortal Kombat 1 that gives the game DLSS graphics options to help run the game more smoothly and consistently.

NetherRealm also released their launch trailer for the game revealing Reiko as a playable character showcasing his and Shang Tsung's gameplay, so it seems we may now know everyone on the base roster.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release in early access on September 14 for those who pre-ordered the Premium or Kollector's Edition of the game, but before then NRS is holding one more Kombat Kast tomorrow, Sept. 13, where they're going to showcase more of Shang Tsung in action plus more.

The full release is still a week away on Sept. 18 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
