New Mortal Kombat 1 trailer reveals Reiko and Shang Tsung gameplay
A new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 has dropped just a couple of days before the early access release for the Premium and Kollector Editions. During this trailer, Reiko was finally revealed to be a playable character.
Additionally, gameplay from Shang Tsung is shown off in the trailer. Though Shang Tsung was revealed to be a pre-order bonus very early on, this is actually the first time we've seen him in action.
Reiko is demonstrated to have a launching kick, a slide, and some sort of tackle. With his Fatal Blow, Reiko uses attacks with weapons which implies that they may be part of his moveset as well.
When several content creators were given the opportunity to play through the first chapter of Mortal Kombat 1, it was shown that Shang Tsung had resorted to being a scammer as he was born without any talent in magic. However, this latest trailer demonstrates that he is once again capable of utilizing his fiery magic.
Like all characters in Mortal Kombat 1, Shang Tsung has gained some new air attacks. As it turns out, he's now able to shoot a fiery skull into the ground while airborne. Following this, the ground skull will pull off a 180 while seemingly tracking the opponent's position.
Additionally, it would appear that Shang Tsung has regained his ability to shapeshift into his opponent's character. While fighting Liu Kang, Shang Tsung briefly transforms into Liu Kang and performs a back throw against the character he is mimicking. It's unknown if Shang Tsung gets any sort of damage boost while transformed like in previous games.
Though characters like Nitara, Mileena, and Reptile have already been revealed, the trailer provides a good look at their moves. Needless to say, quite a lot can be learned from this trailer.
At one point, Mileena is seen throwing three Sai blades at different angles while rolling in mid air. In the right scenario, it would appear that this special is particularly good for combo extensions.
We're also treated to a few scenes from the story that have never been seen before. For example, a scene plays out that shows Mileena struggling with the symptoms of her Tarkat affliction.
Finally, this video also provides another look at Invasions Mode. This mode will bring several different fights and minigames to Mortal Kombat 1.
