New Mortal Kombat 1 trailer gives us more Van Damme Johnny Cage, his second Fatality, and Kameo Fighter Scorpion
Mortal Kombat 1 is almost here. Next week, players who pre-ordered the Premium Edition of the game will be given access to the title a week ahead of its September 19 launch.
NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have been releasing trailers and announcements consistently this week in anticipation of the game's launch, and just yesterday we saw Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon on the internet show Hot Ones, which also gave fans their first look at the special Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage. Today, a new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer has been released that provides a full look at this amazing skin, as well as our first look at Johnny's second Fatality and some more footage of Kameo Fighter Scorpion.
In yesterday's episode of Hot Ones, the gameplay glimpse we got of Van Damme Johnny Cage was a quick look at one of his fight intros. Fans were treated to a few seconds of this alternate look, and though we saw the intro, we didn't quite get to see the skin fully in action.
With the latest trailer there is a ton of actual fighting going on, and just as expected this skin looks fantastic in motion as well. From special moves to slick combos, this trailer is an exceptional showing of Ed Boon and co.'s initial dream of having Van Damme in their game.
Among the near 2 full minutes of Van Damme goodness we get here, this new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer also provides a closer look at Kameo Fighter Scorpion. We haven't seen too much of him just yet, but this time we get to see some of his assists and even his Fatal Blow.
With the big, powerful tag-team super move, Scorpion kicks things off with a teleporting sword uppercut that sends himself up into the sky and leaves the opponent grounded. He then throws his iconic spear into the stomach of the opponent, which gets the full X-Ray effect, then retracts it before pulling off his mask and spitting fire at his foe while still airborne.
To close things out, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. revealed Johnny Cage's second Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1. Much like his first finisher, this Fatality is about as over the top and hilarious as it gets.
Van Damme Johnny Cage starts out with a charged up shadow kick that sends the opponent flying backward and through the windshield of what is very likely Johnny's luxury car. He casually walks up and clicks the swing-up doors open as the opponent — now riddled with glass — droops out onto the floor.
With half of their body still inside the car, Johnny takes one of the doors and slams it down cutting the opponent's body in half. Unfortunately, the victim is still tied to the car due to the door being shut on their intestines, and of course, Johnny remote controls the car to make it start and speed away before crashing and exploding in a fiery blaze.
