Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon takes on the spicy wings of death in latest episode of Hot Ones
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has been on a press run lately for his upcoming fighting title, Mortal Kombat 1. We've seen Ed talking about MK1 all over the place as of late, including sitting down for various interviews, presenting at major video game shows, and tweeting every hint (and red herring) that he can.
Never did we expect the legendary video game designer to make his latest stop, however — a show with hot questions and even hotter wings. That's right, the man himself takes on the spicy wings of death in the latest episode of Hot Ones.
In honor of Mortal Kombat 1's upcoming release, Ed Boon sits down with show host Sean Evans to eat some fiery wings. While Boon voices the iconic fire-breathing ninja in Mortal Kombat, Boon's life will undoubtedly imitate his art here in this episode after eating some of these absurdly spicy wings.
Right out of the gate, Boon mentions that he has a very low tolerance for spicy foods. He doesn't dislike them, but he feels he is at the lowest end of the spicy food handling spectrum.
Throughout the interview, Boon discusses a variety of different topics such as his humble beginnings making the original Mortal Kombat back in 1991 with only four people working on it. Here in 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 has "literally hundreds" of people developing it, and with the advances in technology we've seen over the last few decades the team is able to make their games bigger and better than ever.
Speaking of the past, Boon also talks about how the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage came to be in Mortal Kombat 1. This episode of Hot Ones also gives us our first real look at this skin in-game.
We don't want to spoil anything, but if you're hoping to see Boon suffer a classic Hot Ones reaction to the hotter wings, you'll definitely want to check this episode out.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set for release on September 19. It will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
