Johnny Cage hilariously flirts with Kitana so much in Mortal Kombat 1's fight intros that fans are starting to think they'll end up together

Mortal Kombat 1 is now only a few weeks away from its official release, and hype for the game appears to be quite strong. Last month, those who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S were granted access to the pre-order beta test, which brought with it the first opportunity for the public to play as Johnny Cage and Li Mei.

Among the hundreds of clips and media shared from that test, a lot of folks shined the spotlight on just how much Johnny Cage appears to flirt with Kitana during their fight intros. He flirts so hard, in fact, that some fans believe that the two might end up in a romantic relationship together.

Now, classic Mortal Kombat fans are probably already yelling at me through the screen for even suggesting that Johnny Cage would be with Kitana. Keep in mind that though it was Johnny and Sonya Blade who were married, had a child (Cassie Cage), and divorced in traditional Mortal Kombat lore, Mortal Kombat 1 is (supposedly) an entirely different timeline created by Fire God Liu Kang.

This essentially means that anything is possible, and with how much flirting we have going on in MK1, it's starting to look like Johnny and Kitana may be sittin' in a tree this time around.

From lines like "Come on! A woman like you belongs with a man like me!" to complimenting the elegant warrior on her looks, Johnny is nothing short of dedicated to winning Kitana's heart. Funny enough, though most of Kitana's responses are her rejecting Johnny, some of them actually see her laughing and kind of flirting back.

"Ha! You couldn't handle an Outworld woman," Kitana says in one interaction. This does seem to suggest that she's at least entertaining the idea in some way, which I'm sure Johnny would be thrilled about.

The flirting between these two is so strong that some fans are thinking that they truly might end up together. From your average tweets about shipping Johnny Cage and Kitana's potential relationship to full blown fan art of their love, it seems like this might be a story line that people are hoping unfolds.

Funny enough, Johnny Cage may not actually be running unopposed in the race for Kitana's love. According to Kung Lao, a young Raiden may have his eyes set on Kitana as well.

In one of their fight intros, Kung Lao tells Kitana that he thinks Raiden has a crush on her, saying so in a bit of a teasing manner. In another intro, however, it also sounds like Kung Lao might want to impress Kitana too. Mortal Kombat 1 appears to have the makings of a love quadrangle here.

Regardless of whomever Kitana ends up with (if anyone), Mortal Kombat 1 is slated for launch on September 19. It will be available on various platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
