A Tekken 8 Playtest beta appears to be on the way
We may have Street Fighter 6 on the immediate horizon, but there's more massive titles coming to the fighting game community this year — and we may be getting to play one of them pretty soon.
There appears to be a Tekken 8 Playtest / beta on the way, which will allow players to try out the game from the comfort of their own home for the first time.
As just discovered after it went live today, a Tekken 8 Playtest page appeared on the SteamDB website separated from the main game, which all but confirms a test is coming sometime in the near future.
This listing is not available on the main Steam store page yet, and SteamDB states that this app is currently hidden to the public.
Interestingly, the image included with the page says Tekken 8 CNT, which likely stands for Closed Network Test and includes branches called "dev-cbt-release" (likely meaning Closed Beta Test).
This probably means that prospective players are going to need to register for some sort of lottery to get into the Tekken 8 test before it becomes available like Bandai Namco already did with the in-person Closed Alpha Test sessions.
Speaking of, the developers stated that Combo Breaker 2023 would be their last alpha location test and that they were moving onto the next phase of development, which in this case seems to include an at-home test.
Tekken 8's Playtest / beta hasn't been officially announced or confirmed by Bandai Namco yet, however, so we don't know when exactly this is going to go live.
The next likely place they could announce the beta would be at the Summer Game Fest 2023 main showcase on June 8, but if it's not there, CEO 2023 at the end of the month would be the next event to look out for after that.
Tekken 8 still doesn't have a solid release date, but it is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
