Dave Bautista reveals his favorite Mortal Kombat characters and plays Mortal Kombat 1 in new promotional video
Mortal Kombat 1 is only a few weeks away from release now, and NetherRealm Studios continues to hype up the game as the hype for the game continues to swell with fans. Just yesterday, the company behind the gory fighting title released a new advertisement for Mortal Kombat 1 that featured actor / former professional wrestle Dave Bautista in what was a direct call back to the original Mortal Monday commercial from back in 1993.
Today, a new video featuring Bautista was released in which he plays Mortal Kombat 1 and talks a little bit about what the franchise means to him. Additionally, we get to see a little bit more footage of Scorpion and Liu Kang in action.
The Guardians of the Galaxy star scored the leading role in the new Mortal Kombat 1 advertisement. The commercial sees Dave as a librarian walking through a library and whispering the words "Mortal Kombat" to a young man studying at a table.
Like the original commercial from the 90s, the words "Mortal Kombat" begin to spread throughout the city until a giant mob of people gather together yelling it. Dave Bautista also gets the honor of delivering the big, iconic scream at the end of the advert.
This new video, however, sees a much calmer Bautista than the commercial portrays. In fact, he even mentions that his voice is gone from all of the screaming as this was clearly shot while the advertisement was being filmed.
Bautista starts out by explaining how being involved with the advertisement is gratifying due to the personal connection he has with the franchise. He notes that he used to play the game when he was younger, and then he goes on to share which fighters are his favorite.
"When I was younger, I liked being Liu Kang because Kang did the Bicycle Kick and he could also turn into a dragon," Bautista said. Nowadays, he has a different favorite, and the main reason he does is due to one of the game's most iconic lines of dialogue.
The video goes on to show new footage of Mortal Kombat 1 featuring Scorpion and Liu Kang. Though we've seen these two fighters in action previously, keen-eyed viewers may notice that Scorpion pulls off a new combo that utilizes his spear.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set for launch on September 19. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
