Ed Boon holds an interesting poll that asks fans what they want to see from NetherRealm Studios next
It's been over a year since NetherRealm Studios announced the conclusion of their post-launch support for Mortal Kombat 11. With that announcement, it was also confirmed that NetherRealm Studios had moved on to their next project. Since then, we've heard basically nothing in regards to what that project actually is.
Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer of NetherRealm Studios, recently hosted a very interesting poll on Twitter. "What do YOU want to see from NetherRealm studios next?" asked Boon of fans in this poll.
The available options were Injustice 3, a Marvel game, Marvel vs. DC, and the next Mortal Kombat. This poll hasn't concluded yet, but it already has over 136,000 votes submitted.

Needless to say, the options provided by Ed Boon were quite interesting. He's definitely not confirming any rumors with this poll, but it feels like he's acknowledging them.
Of the four options, the Marvel game is currently performing the worst with only 11.3% of the votes. Similarly, Injustice 3 currently sits at third place with around 20.4% of the votes.
Even though we just had Mortal Kombat 11, it seems that there are a lot of fans that are still eager for the next Mortal Kombat. As of right now, 27.1% of participants voted that they want to see what's next for the Mortal Kombat series from NetherRealm Studios.
However, it's looking like the Marvel vs. DC idea is currently slated to win the poll. While things could change, 41.2% of voters have voted to see a Marvel vs. DC game with there now being only eight hours left until the poll closes.
If we follow along with the "pattern" that's been established by how NetherRealm Studios releases games, we should logically be expecting Injustice 3 to release after Mortal Kombat 11. Of course, it's worth mentioning that Ed Boon has recently acknowledged this pattern, and has already confirmed that the developers are doing something different this time.
"When we broke that pattern, there was a lot of speculation of what we would be doing next," said Boon to GameInformer back in February. "I can tell you there was a reason for it, and when we announce our next game, it’ll make a lot more sense."
Not too long ago, it was rumored that NetherRealm Studios was somehow involved in a project concerning Disney's Marvel intellectual property. Even Ed Boon himself has been teasing that this could be the case, but it's important to note that this has never actually been confirmed.
Needless to say, a Marvel vs. DC game is something we've never seen before so it would be interesting if it turned out that NetherRealm Studios was actually working on this as their next project.
Based on the aforementioned poll, such an announcement would make a lot of fans happy. We'll just have to wait and see how things unfold from here.
