Mortal Kombat 2 Easter egg spotted in new Last of Us remake
The new version of the old Last of Us (Last of Us: Part 1) has been out for a week now, and as fans have been visually scouring every nook and cranny of the experience to see just how many more pixels of definition are present, they've also spotted a newly inserted Mortal Kombat 2 reference.
Said reference pops up at the beginning of the Left Behind DLC (don't worry, you get this when you purchase Part 1) but it's easy to miss if you're not ready... or if your brightness settings aren't high enough.
As players start up Left Behind they see a sleeping Ellie being playfully stocked by Riley. The wall behind the bed Ellie is initially sleeping in is covered in posters, one of which happens to feature the iconic black dragon from Mortal Kombat.
Said dragon tends to change slightly in presentation, and this particular one is from 1993's Mortal Kombat 2. It does come across as a bit odd that these girls in the post apocalyptic 2030's would have anything to do with MK2 (they're not even old enough to play it without an adult present) but it's likely this is just a nod from developers to a game they love.
Said poster was not in the original Last of Us Left Behind DLC, and can only be seen in the latest version of Last of Us content, created for modern consoles.
It's just a fun little nod to a classic title, but fun to see added here. Check it out in this quick clip from Gaming Details:
