Unused character select animations discovered and restored back into Dragon Ball FighterZ

As fans on the outside, it's pretty much impossible to truly understand how many concepts and ideas go unfinished or scrapped during a fighting game's development, and now is one of the rare times to catch a glimpse of what could have been.

RCBurrito recently made the fascinating discovery that Dragon Ball FighterZ contains cut / unused animations meant for the game's character select screen, and he wen't through the extra trouble of actually modding them back into the PC version.

As can be seen in the video clip shared by the modder, Arc System Works once apparently planned to make characters perform a ready up animation when selected.

Somewhere along the way, however, the developers must have scrapped the animations for some unknown reason, which can be seen in some fighters like Piccolo, who appear to have been left unfinished.

Instead, the final game released with characters only striking a mostly static idle pose, so it these could have been nice to give things a little extra flair now that we know what we're missing.

Luckily, RCBurrito was able to restore these animations back into DBFZ via a mod.

Since the small feature was cut during production though, that unfortunately means that only the original base roster have the animations actually left in the files.

We can't find any mention of of these animations on The Cutting Room Floor's archives or elsewhere on the internet, so this may be the first time this discovery has been properly documented after almost 5 years since the game released.

This isn't the only recent discovery of intrigue locked away in DBFZ, as data-miner Saitsu also uncovered an unused interface and confirmation that Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta were supposed to have unique costumes in the files of the original beta.

You can find more information about the mod on RCBurrito's GameBanana page.
