A Killer Instinct countdown timer to an announcement has appeared online from Code Mystics
Avid Killer Instinct fans have spent years patiently waiting for the series to return, and it looks like something is about to drop.
Code Mystics have launched a countdown on their website for some sort of Killer Instinct related announcement as well as posting an apparent teaser to their social media.
The website, whose URL was hidden in their recent tweet, has KI's classic purple and stormy background titled "Continue?" with a countdown timer scheduled to expire December 1, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. PT / 10:30 p.m. ET.
Considering Code Mystics works almost exclusively on ports of older video games, it seems highly unlikely that Microsoft would have them develop a brand new entry in the series.
The studio does already have quite a bit of experience already with Killer Instinct, however, as they previously handled the Killer Instinct Classic and Killer Instinct 2 Classic releases on Xbox plus the Killer Instinct Arcade 1UP machine.

It seems the most likely outcome from the current teases will be related to the first 2 games again.
This could be a new release on PC and potentially even the Nintendo Switch, which would make the classic Rare fighting games much more widely available.
Code Mystics could also be going back and updating the Xbox versions of KI and KI2 with additional features like lobbies and netcode improvements that may also be included in those hypothetical new releases too.
Either way, we won't be waiting much longer to see what Code Mystics is cooking up next.
