LEGO Brawls release date delayed with the Super Smash Bros.-like platform fighter now being published by Bandai Namco

With the massive success and popularity of Super Smash Bros., platform fighting games have evolved into their own fleshed out sub-genre, and there's plenty of developers and license holders looking to get in on the action now.

LEGO Brawls is one such title coming to console and PC soon, but prospective players will be waiting apparently a bit longer to take their own brick-based heroes into battle.

Bandai Namco announced today that they'll be handling publishing duties for Red Games' platform fighter, which the company already has some experience handling considering they previously helped develop both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The LEGO brawler was originally scheduled to his PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S next month in June, but now the title has been pushed back to a more nebulous Summer 2022 release date.

Pre-orders for LEGO Brawls are now open as well, which reveal the game will be priced at $40 USD at retail.

The title originally launched for Apple Arcade back in 2019, so while the game is not technically new, this will be the first chance for many LEGO fans to get their hands on this updated version.

Instead of using the limited lives stock system of Smash Bros., LEGO Brawls is focused more on gaining and keeping control of the center of the stage for a period of time.

In true LEGO fashion, players are able to customize their fighters with a large number of costumes and accessories pulling from a variety of themes including Ninjago, Jurassic World, space, pirates, knights and more.

We can find no confirmation of the game using rollback netcode, however, so we wouldn't hold out too much hope for that making it in the brawler for launch.
