For the first time in recent history, the order of Evo 2022's finals is determined purely on entrant numbers, and there's thousands of players looking to make their mark on the tournament series' big return.

The organizers for Evo 2022 have now released the final registration numbers for next month's event where there's been some changes from the last time we heard about the numbers.

Only the top 4 fighting games are receiving the coveted Sunday finals spot at the larger venue, so that honor this year is going to The King of Fighters 15 with 1,104 entrants, Tekken 7 with 1,220, Street Fighter 5's 1,320 and finally Guilty Gear Strive to close things out with a whopping 2,161.

That leaves 5 games for Saturday night being Melty Blood: Type Lumina at 411 entries, Mortal Kombat 11 with 464, Granblue Fantasy: Versus at 528 and Dragon Ball FighterZ's 636.

Skullgirls will have their finals on Friday night with the game's 295 players signing up.

Since we received the first update in April, it appears that Tekken, Mortal Kombat and Dragon Ball have all risen the ranks, but Guilty Gear and Street Fighter firmly held their top positions.

With 7,445 attendees signed up, that is a decent bit smaller than Evo 2019's numbers which reached 9,230 attendees, but the tournament is also missing that year's largest game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, that had a whopping 3,534 competitors.

It's not too surprising that Evo 2022 couldn't quite reach the height of 2019 considering many players are likely still wary about travel and large crowds on top of Smash's absence, but it's a great sign that they were still able to just about match 2018's numbers after essentially 3 years away.

Guilty Gear Strive has the honor of being the first title in the series to ever headline an offline Evo, and presumably will go down as the largest Guilty Gear tournament in history.

King of Fighters 15 is the other big new game this year, and while it fell just shy of beating out Evo staples like Street Fighter and Tekken, Evo 2022 likely marks one of the largest KOF brackets ever too.

Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 both dropped about 600 players from where they were at in 2019, but this does show that people are still interested in what is likely their last Evo on the mainstage.

With thousands of competitors from around the world, promises of big reveals and probably too many hype moments to count ahead, Evo appears to be trying to come back in a big way under their new management.

Evo 2022 is all set to take place August 5–7 with finals set for the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
