Streamer gathers full scans of every English Super Nintendo game manual ever including some great classic fighting game ones
People may not think much of game manuals these days, but back when a lot of us were growing up these little instruction booklets that came included with each game were crucial to our experience. Today, those same manuals serve little to no purpose on the information front thanks to the vastness of the internet, but their value comes in the form of historical significance and the incredible amount of nostalgia they provide.
A streamer by the name of Peebs recently completed an absolutely daunting feat in gathering scans for every single English game manual released for the Super Nintendo. The vault of scans is now available online in its entirety, and within it, there are some truly amazing fighting game booklets to look over.
This mission came about during Peebs' eight-year quest to dive into and complete every SNES game for his Twitch viewers. Peebs wanted to collect full scans of every English-language manual the console has to offer and make them available all in one place — which has officially been accomplished.
"Hi, I'm Peebs, For the last 8 years on twitch, I've been beating every SNES game and found that there really wasn't a good source for SNES manuals available on the internet," Peebs wrote on the SNES Manual Archive website about the project. "After digging through the wayback machine for a couple years, buying a scanner, making many good friends, and having almost 100 people on the internet submit scans, I can now present to you all: a complete collection of English Language SNES manuals."
Every game appears to be accounted for and listed, offering a link that leads to the scans and an easy way to click through them. There were a lot of great fighting games on the Super Nintendo, so naturally my first inclination was to do a quick search for some of my favorites.
From Art of Fighting to Street Fighter Alpha 2, there are a plethora of excellent and nostalgia-filled booklets to check out here. The best part of them, though, is all of the amazing retro artwork packed within.
The more detailed pieces are meant to catch your eye and showcase many of the colorful characters found on these games' rosters. Robert Garcia delivering a powerful punch to Micky's face in the Art of Fighting manual is definitely something that would make you want to jump right into the game.
There's also the less detailed, but equally awesome special move play-by-plays that show you how the animations of these maneuvers work.
We have included some quick glimpses at a handful of different Super Nintendo fighting game manuals below, but be sure to head over to the archive to view many more and those for non-fighting titles as well.
