Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's crazy modding community is about to get even crazier with its biggest limitation seemingly solved

Or at least very close to being so

The Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 scene remains one of the most dedicated in the FGC even 10 years after its initial release, and that goes doubly for their modding community.

A small but talented group of programmers already started adding brand new playable characters to the monumental fighting game like Street Fighter's Urien and X-Men's Cyclops, but they've always looked at least a bit off due to limitations. That's seemingly all about to change, however.

The biggest hurdle preventing these modded fighters from matching up to the source material is the fact that new models / textures couldn't really be added to the game, which is generally the backbone of any major mod project.

That means while Urien's basic move list can be recreated and his Street Fighter 5 voice lines used, Malamander's slick mod was forced to use an altered version of Albert Wesker's model to actually work.

Thanks to what appears to be months of hard work from TGE though, the sky may soon be the limit.

A proper model importing tool for UMvC3 is reportedly close to complete to allow modders to essentially rip assets from other games and shove them directly into Marvel 3.

Said model importing program is not available to the public, but some of the bigger modders in the scene seem to already have their hands on a build and are running some tests.

Tabs recently shared images of Dante with his Devil May Cry 1 costume in full, which they state was pulled from Monster Hunter World and given some additional custom textures to make it work / fit.

That was later followed by looks at a handful of others including Evil Ryu, Ken, Chris Redfield's original look and Captain Marvel.

Malamander also appears to be doing the same with their Urien mod too.

Unfortunately, we'll have to be patient and wait before we can take these new models for a spin though since these are still fairly early works in progress.

The landscape of Marvel 3 on PC will change rather drastically for those who wish to take part once these tools and models become available for all to try.

At this rate in a year or two, we could essentially be playing a brand new Marvel vs. Capcom game that was built from the ground up by fans.

And that's a very exciting prospect when there's no official support coming out of the companies for the series on the immediate horizon.
