More fan-made retro Mortal Kombat finishers finally right the wrong by making Scorpion turn into an actual scorpion during his Animality
One of the fresh finisher types added to Mortal Kombat 3 back in 1995 was the Animality. Essentially, when a player had their win in the bag at the "FINISH HIM/HER!" screen, they could transform their fighter into an animal to take the opponent out in a more ferocious way.
Every character on the roster had a unique transformation, with Sub-Zero turning into a polar bear, Nightwolf turning into a wolf, and Scorpion, of course, becoming... a penguin. It never quite made sense why the fiery ninja didn't shift into the form of his namesake, but that nearly 27-year-old wrong has been righted thanks to WeaponTheory's awesome, fan-made retro Mortal Kombat finishers.
Back when the original Mortal Kombat 3 was released Scorpion actually wasn't a part of the playable cast. Sheeva was a newly added contender here, and her Animality saw her transform into a giant Scorpion and poison her foe.
Fast forward 6 months later and we have the updated Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 that brings more characters — including Scorpion — into the fold. Since Sheeva already had the scorpion Animality, Midway decided to make Scorpion transform into a penguin not only to keep all of these finishers unique, but also likely for humor's sake.
We just recently discovered WeaponTheory's work and in digging a little deeper we found a compilation of their retro-style animations from 2019. In this collection of clips, we get to see the Scorpion Animality we've always wanted and deserved.
With this finisher, Scorpion becomes a giant scorpion with a yellow glow, and naturally, he delivers a large sting to his prey. Instead of poison, though, the strike is powerful enough to split the opponent in two and send them to the NetherRealm.
There are more well-made finishers included in this highlight reel, and we have also shared a compilation from 2021 that features some of the other clips we wrote about last time. Be sure to check them all out below, and finally gain inner peace from seeing Scorpion's proper Animality in action.
