X-Men's Gambit is returning to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 via impressive-looking new mod

It's been over 20 years since X-Men's Gambit showed up in one of Capcom's Marvel-based fighting games, but that streak is about to end — unofficially at least.

With the release of their badass new Urien mod for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the talented Malamander included a brief teaser of the next character they're working on being an impressive-looking take on the card-throwing mutant.

Although he only appears for less than 30 seconds, that's still more than enough time to see what Gambit will be working with in his UMVC3 conversion.

As can be seen in the demonstration gameplay, Gambit will retain his Kinetic and Trick Card specials though they look a bit different plus his cool Cajun Explosion Hyper Combo.

The mod itself is still very much a work in progress, as the mutant uses Frank West's portrait. His staff is currently just Frank's broom too with animations that appear to be pulled from Dante (as well as his model).

Gambit became something of a staple inclusion beginning with 1996's X-Men vs. Street Fighter, but we haven't seen Remy LeBeau in a Capcom fighter since Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

The smooth Louisianian was left out of MvC3 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (along with the rest of the X-Men), which remains disappointing for Gambit fans like myself.

There's currently no mention of when the Gambit mod will be available to the general public, but we'll certainly be seeing more in the coming weeks and months as the UMVC3 modding scene continues to evolve.
