Capcom announced Street Fighter 6 to the world tonight following the conclusion of the Capcom Pro Tour 2021 Season Final.

The developers showcased a small glimpse at the future of the world warriors with a debut teaser trailer and first details on the next generation of Street Fighter.

The brief teaser gives a taste of Ryu and Luke's new designs for Street Fighter 6 with the original protagonist seemingly embracing the 'Hot Ryu' look from Street Fighter 5 with his beard and without the top of his gi. He's also wearing sandals too, which is pretty new for the usually bare-footed warrior.

Luke, on the other hand, appears to be sporting a similar look to his Street Fighter 5 Story Costume except this time he's wearing a shirt and no longer in a military uniform.

The shirt he has on does contain the giant logo of the United States Air Force just like his chest tattoo, so that coupled with the dog tags means he likely still has connections to the military and Guile.

What's most interesting about his appearance, however, is we see scars lining Luke's face and arms, which is a pretty stark contrast to his more clean cut design in SF5.

Capcom had previously confirmed to EventHubs that Ryu and Chun-Li will be in every Street Fighter game, and they added that Luke will have a bright future as well — and we got to see 2 of them in action tonight.

There is no gameplay shown in the trailer since it's all one cinematic, although, as they go to fight each other, Ryu and Luke become surrounded by something like an explosion of ink, which has become something of a visual motif for the series since Street Fighter 4.

This graffiti / ink style also applies to the logo for Street Fighter 6 as well though we'll have to wait and see what it means for the theme of the game as a whole.

No release date or window was given in the teaser, but the ending promises more reveals are coming this summer.

If Capcom keeps up with previous expectations, we're expecting a launch date around the early part of 2023.

Similarly, no planned platforms have been announced at this time for SF6, but seeing as the teaser trailer is available in 4K, they'll likely and unsurprisingly be at least aiming for the more powerful consoles like the PlayStation 5 and perhaps a return to the Xbox Series X|S.

While there's no official confirmation, Street Fighter 6 appears to be running on the RE Engine, which previously powered Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise and most of Capcom's recent releases.

This would explain SF6's approach towards more photorealism, as the RE Engine can scan objects from the real world into it to create lifelike textures.

That has usually been coupled with the use of real actors and models to be used for the characters themselves too, so there's likely real people providing the faces for Ryu, Luke and the rest of the cast now too.

The big reveal was also immediately preceded by the announcement of the Capcom Fighting Collection, featuring most of the company's classic fighters like Darkstalkers, Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness, Red Earth and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 turbo — though it does come packing Hyper Street Fighter 2 too.
