aMSa releases new Yoshi match up chart for Super Smash Bros. Melee to cap off his historic competitive season
Masaya "VGBC|aMSa" Chikamoto made history in 2022 as the first Yoshi player to ever win a Super Smash Bros. Melee major as well as the first Japanese competitor to win a super major, but his list of accomplishments goes on from there.
The recent champion of the Scuffed World Tour decided to cap off his ridiculous season by releasing a new Melee match up chart for Yoshi to detail how he feels his favorite dinosaur can perform on the big stage now.
Although aMSa managed to defeat basically every other top player at some point this year, he still believes Yoshi still struggles to get wins against the other strong and much more popular competitive characters like Fox, Captain Falcon and Sheik.
Aside from those 3 and Peach, however, the arguably best player of the year has his boy going at least even against the rest of the relevant cast.
That even includes Marth, who infamously has a better throw than Yoshi in Melee, but I guess that doesn't matter in the face of the egg barrage and deadly up air.
The Scuffed World Tour commentators made a point during aMSa's grand final bout against Liquid|HungryBox that Jigglypuff was generally always favored versus Yoshi, yet the last few months may have changed that perception.
aMSa is comfortable enough in the matchup now to say Yoshi and Puff go even now, and it's certainly hard to argue after that grueling grand finals set.
It's wild to think that up until aMSa's arrival, Yoshi was viewed as a mid-tier at best character who couldn't win events, and now they're both on top of the Melee world.
