The worst Mortal Kombat characters added in each of the 3D era games

We're back with part two of our exploration of the worst characters making their playable debuts in every Mortal Kombat game. This time we're looking at the 3D era (not so arguably the franchise's darkest period when it comes to fresh faces) to determine who fans hated the most in Mortal Kombat 4, Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon.

Some of these games had a few new additions who would go on to be fan favorites and return in later titles, (Armageddon doesn't count) but the majority were actually relatively bad. Picking out a worst in some of these games was actually quite the challenge, but we've come up with our list and are ready to share it.

Ed Boon and his team(s) from over the years tend to push boundaries in the fighting game genre. They're not always wildly successful, but they've set many standards and raised many bars by taking this approach.

That said, characters are one of the absolute most important facets of fighting games as they play a major role in luring in new players and keeping them around.

As the creative team at Midway ventured into the 3D fighting space and added non-fighting game modes (we got MK chess, MK Mario Kart, and even MK God of War to name a few) it seems they failed to reserve enough creative mana for intriguing new roster members.

Newcomers who wound up feeling bland and causing fans to feel apathetic were more prevalent than not, and though the franchise was able to see success through this period thanks to returning icons and fun enough gameplay, this was not MK's most fruitful season for growing its roster.

Who were the least attractive, most annoying, and/or most disappointing to fans (and sometimes even developers)?

Check out our latest video below to see who we picked, and then let us know in the comments (preferably on YouTube as well, along with a like and subscription) whether or not you agree.

You wouldn't necessarily need to watch these in order, but if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to peep our first video in this series which explores the worst characters in Mortal Kombat 1 through UMK3/Trilogy.
