King of Fighters 15 Designer details Kukri's new special but fails to mention his crimes committed in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

Kukri was one of the most interesting newcomers introduced in The King of Fighters 14 with his mysterious origins, motivations and working towards the resurrection of Ash Crimson. It seems like we'll finally be getting some answers in the next entry.

Tomohiro Nakata, lead designer of The King of Fighters 15, has released a special sketch for Kukri where he describes the story implications of what's on the horizon plus his new special move — but fails to mention his transgressions from SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

"During the ending of KOF14, we found out that [Kukri] had been deeply involved in Ash's resurrection," wrote Nakata in the post. "However, there still remain many unanswered questions as to who exactly he is. Look forward to when his team's story gets revealed, as it reveals the reasons behind his entering the tournament as well as who he's teaming up with."

One thing that may have been easily overlooked in his trailer last week was the fact that Kukri is bringing a new ability to the battlefield this time around.

Nakata describes this pillar of sand as a projectile that is better used at medium to farther distances over his previous grounded sand wave.

The text says the pillar appears at a random distance, but we think it's more likely they mean it'll change distance depending on the button used.

Kukri's EX version of the move will also likely be a great combo extender because of its tall hitbox and ability to hit multiple times.

Interestingly, the events of SNK Heroines isn't mentioned at all despite Kukri being the mastermind and antagonist of the fighting game.

You may think 'oh, that's not a big deal. It's just a spin-off fighter' but SNK's Yasuyuki Oda has previously confirmed Heroines is canon and takes place after the events of KOF14.

For some fairly perverted motivations, Kukri created a pocket dimension where he trapped the ladies of SNK (and somehow gender bent Terry and Iori).

Inside he forced them to fight in skimpy or fan service filled costumes for his viewing pleasure and drain their energy, but of course it blew up in Kukri's face in the end and everyone escaped.

While the story of Heroines itself probably won't factor into the story of KOF15, it does seem like SNK has incorporated Kukri's more eccentric personality from the spin-off more into the new title.

We don't really know if the characters will remember what they went through in that game, so it'll be interesting to see the ladies' reactions facing Kukri again — and especially Iori's.
