It's been reported that Mick McGinty, artist for the cover art for Street Fighter 2 titles in the West, has passed away. This news has been posted by McGinty's son, Jobey McGinty, over Facebook.

McGinty's passing came as a result of cancer. He was 69 at the time. Jobey McGinty has indicated that his father passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 18, 2021.

This artist was the one who created the western cover art for Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition and Super Street Fighter 2.

Outside of fighting games, Mick McGinty also created the cover art for Streets of Rage 2, Streets of Rage 3, Leisure Suity Larry, Shining Force, Kid Chameleon, Traysia, Chicago Syndicate, Sol Feace, Monster Bass, Off World Interceptor Extreme and Battle Cars. Notably, McGinty had his son pose for the creation of Kid Chameleon's artwork.

Though it's sad to hear that such a legendary artist is no longer with us, he appeared to lead a happy life. Jobey McGinty shared some words about his father's passing in a journal entry.

VGDensetsu has gathered up a number of examples of McGinty's work and has shared them on Twitter. Check them out below:
