Just yesterday, we got a full breakdown of Luke in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition during the Fall Update broadcast. Ever since Luke was first revealed, Capcom developers have been drawing attention to the role that Luke will apparently play with regards to the future of Street Fighter.

In celebration of Luke's upcoming release as the final character for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, Takayuki Nakayama, Director of Street Fighter 5, released some pixel art that had Ryu, Alex, Abel and Rashid welcoming a grateful Luke.

It goes without saying that Ryu is one of the major protagonists of the Street Fighter storyline. He had a significant role to play since the very first Street Fighter which continued into Street Fighter 2 and the Street Fighter Alpha series.

Though Ryu still had a presence in the series, Alex would temporarily take on the role of protagonist in Street Fighter 3: New Generation, Street Fighter 3: Second Impact and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Alex's story had him seeking revenge against Gill for hurting his friend and father figure, Tom.

It can be argued that Abel and Rashid are protagonists of Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 5 respectively, though this might not be quite as obvious compared to how this was for Ryu and Alex.

In Street Fighter 4, Abel was an amnesiac that sought answers about his past. As the story unfolds, we learn how Abel has a strong resemblance and connection to Seth, the boss and main antagonist of Street Fighter 4.

Rashid's story during the events of Street Fighter 5 saw him investigating the disappearance of his friend. Though Rashid is overall one of the good guys, he ends up allying himself with some rather shady characters to accomplish his goal of finding his friend.

Towards the end of the recent stream, it was confirmed that Luke "will be a key player in the next Street Fighter project." Based on the "protagonists of Street Fighter" welcoming Luke in the posted pixel art, it's even more heavily implied that Luke will end up being the protagonist of whatever is next for Street Fighter.
