Tekken 7's journey this generation has been one of growth and success for Bandai Namco and the fighting game community, and its momentum apparently continues to reach more players around the world almost six years after its arcade release.

When sharing part of the game's new Version 4.10 patch notes on Twitter, series director Katsuhiro Harada coyly responded to a fan revealing that the seventh mainline entry had reportedly crossed the 7 million sales mark.

With 6 million being reached back in September of 2020, Tekken 7 managed to push an additional million copies in only six months, which is pretty impressive for a fighting game that's quickly approaching its fourth anniversary of its home release.

This now firmly cements the latest entry as the second-best selling single release in the franchise and only sits behind Tekken 3 with its 8.3 million copies.

As for its more contemporary competition, the 3D fighting game is among the top performers of this past generation with only the likes of Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat 11 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate really standing above Bandai Namco's flagship fighter.

Tekken also continues to outpace Bamco's other huge fighting game with a strong backing IP in Dragon Ball FighterZ, as that game reached 6 million copies as of December 2020.

Street Fighter 5 is still trying to play catch up, despite the fact that it released first, though it too is sitting at a strong 5+ million as well.

Before the pandemic, Tekken 7 was one of the few fighting games to see continuous growth at majors like Evo year over year and the Tekken World Tour.

The game is concluding its Season 4 content today with the release of Lidia Sobieska in its shortest pass of DLC to date, so it'll be interesting to see what the future of Tekken 7 is from here on.

Whether or not the title does see more content support in the future, Tekken 7 will certainly go down as one of the strongest fighters of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One era.
