It was recently announced that the Evo Championship series was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment and RTS. As such, there have been a few concerns that the Evo Championship series will only allow for games on Sony's consoles going forward.

In the minds of many hardcore gamers, this could present a serious problem since Sony consoles have a tendency to have more inherent latency compared to Microsoft consoles and the PC.

In premeditated response, Mark "MarkMan" Julio, Evo representative, confirmed that Evo would still be open to all platforms despite Sony's acquisition.

"Evo is still open to all platforms.," noted Julio. "The teams at PlayStation and RTS are enabling us to continue working with our community to support fighting games."

Upon hearing this news, some fans still believed that other consoles and the PC wouldn't be represented at the tournament series going forward.

"PC dream for the fighting game community is dead," said Sherry Jenix on Twitter.

"Evo is open to all platforms still," reaffirmed Julio in response. "We are running Tekken 7 on PC and allowing PC (crossplay) for other titles."

According to the Evo website, the four games confirmed for Evo Online 2021 are Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 7, Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. It's also been noted that more games will be announced soon, likely for a future offline event.

However, Nintendo's presence at future Evo events is looking a little shaky if a statement by a Nintendo spokesman is anything to go by. Nintendo has ominously stated that they have enjoyed their time at past Evo events and that they wish the tournament organizers the best of luck. "We will continue to assess Evo," stated Nintendo.

Ultimately, players' fears and concerns for Evo will probably only be put to rest once a Nintendo or Microsoft exclusive fighting game makes the Evo lineup. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
