Street Fighter 5's upcoming 'mystery' Capcom Pro Tour costume might be for the game's final character

Capcom surprised Street Fighter 5 fans yesterday with a sudden announcement of an online Capcom Pro Tour for 2021, and while the biggest draws there come from the hype and excitement of top level competition across the globe, a new Tour also means new DLC content.

To help bolster prize pools, Capcom has traditionally developed 3 extra Street Fighter 5 costumes and a new stage every year. One of said costumes has always been a "Champion's Choice" that's imagined by the previous year's Capcom Cup winner, but with no official Cup in 2020 we've simply got a "mystery costume" en route this time.

Yesterday's reveal is very much in step with those of previous years in that we usually do see the two special Capcom-designed CPT costumes first, and then get a glimpse of the Champion's Choice some weeks or months later.

The threads imagined by Capcom Cup winners have a special significance as they're often personalized (the 2017 Guile has NuckleDu's name on his vest and 2018's Birdie straight up borrows MenaRD's street clothes and haircut) as well as require a bit of additional work as developers have to spend time collaborating with players.

As such, it's understandable that they may not get revealed as rapidly as costumes that are developed on a fully internal basis, but that particular barrier isn't in place this year. This new mystery costume is now set up to be worthy of its own reveal, but given the current circumstances, why would it be given any different treatment from the fresh looks for G and Seth we saw yesterday?

Sure, it's not the only possible answer to that question, but it would certainly fit the situation if the mystery threads are intended for game's unrevealed final DLC entrant who's scheduled to drop some time in the fall.

It could also be that said costume is planned for one of the three other upcoming DLC fighters, Rose, Oro, or Akira, and Capcom is not yet ready to show off certain details about them. (We've seen gameplay footage of Rose, some brief animations of Oro's model, and nothing of Akira thus far.)

With a whole new season's worth of balance updates, the novel V-Shift mechanic, and all the CPT 2021 content we do now have, there's plenty to keep us busy while we wait. That said, we will be keeping this mystery costume and its peculiar circumstances in mind while we wait for more information.

Below is a gallery of all Capcom Pro Tour costumes for Street Fighter 5 spanning from 2016 to present day, and after you peruse it, we'd love to hear in the comments what you think the mystery costume might be.
