Tekken X Street Fighter was about 30% done before the project died according to latest Harada's Bar episode

It's been over 9 years since Capcom released Street Fighter X Tekken, a collaboration between Capcom and Bandai Namco. This game pitted Tekken characters up against those from the Street Fighter universe in a 2D plane.

Although a follow up, Tekken X Street Fighter, was planned to be overseen by Bandai Namco, the surprisingly poor performance of Street Fighter X Tekken has seemingly shelved that game for the time being. However, the latest Harada's Bar episode that was translated into English revealed that the project is now dead after it was about 30% complete.

In response to a question about Street Fighter X Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada and Kouhei Ikeda (Tekken 7 Director) revealed some interesting details about development.

"We were working really hard on that. We really were," said the Bandai Namco developers. "Wish we could show you the models and stuff. We had reaaaaally nice models. I really wanted to show them Chun-Li. I wanted to show you guys all the characters."

Even if you can't understand Japanese, you can really hear the disappointment in Harada's voice about not being able to show off what was done with Tekken X Street Fighter. However, even just showing these models would require Capcom's permission.

"But Street Fighter belongs to Capcom so we can't do it on our own."

Of course, it was alluded that we've already seen Akuma's model from Tekken X Street Fighter. Without outright stating it, it's implied that Akuma's model in Tekken 7 is actually what Akuma was looking like in Tekken X Street Fighter.

"You can see Akuma's model," said the developers. "It's pretty cool."

"Yeah, development stopped, but we got about 30% done," continued the developers on the topic of Tekken X Street Fighter. "We even had motions, which you can see reflected in Akuma. The developing experience was useful. We wanted to show it, but the project died."

The developers speak about a number of other subjects including win percentages for Tekken characters in Tekken 7 online rankings. The discussion about Tekken X Street Fighter specifically begins at 17:15.
