5 of the most frustrating things online players do in Street Fighter 5

It's 2021 and if you're visiting this site you've almost certainly experienced the joys, wonders, and soul-crushing frustrations of playing fighting games online. It only makes sense that, in an altered atmosphere where reactions are harder and risk vs. reward is skewed, we'd see people adapt to use strategies that tend to win rounds.

On this week's episode of the EventHubs Podcast, we put five commonly seen Street Fighter 5 online tactics under the microscope. You can probably guess the first and most obvious of them, but some of the others you may or may not have identified for what they are quite yet.

A huge part of why we decided to discuss this topic in the first place is enveloped in the simple fact that misery loves company. It's easy to grind continuously and feel like you're out there all alone on online island, but rest assured the rest of us have and commonly do feel those emotions of injustice, anger, and trampled pride.

The other reason we felt this was worth bringing up is that consciously identifying and understanding these kinds of tactics is the first step in being able to defeat them with more consistency. As you'll hear in the video, I lost way too many rounds to a particular Karin strategy that I could have saved myself from simply by studying the details.

At a very basic level, going online and playing amid sporadic lag (and simply knowing the potential thereof) naturally alters the risk and reward of certain attacks. The ability to react lessens and so therefore so does the amount of risk that comes with heavier and riskier hits. Unfortunately, the reward does not decrease, and thus we muddy the waters of competition.
