At least one of Guilty Gear Strive's five scheduled DLC characters will be brand new according to Director Daisuke Ishiwatari

Guilty Gear Strive's General Director Daisuke Ishiwatari and Development Director Akira Katano recently sat down for an interview with 4Gamer wherein they spoke at length about the title that's slated to drop next week.

Many topics are covered in the discussion, but our ears were particularly perked during talk of the DLC characters planned for the first season of Strive. We know that five are en route to join the starting 15 fighter lineup, and learn that not all of them will be returning franchise favorites.

4Gamer asks the pair of directors what the timeframe for DLC release might be and who might be coming. Their responses are expectedly lean, but Ishiwatari does make an interesting contribution.

"We can't bring out any specific character names until release, but we are planning to provide release windows," notes Katano. "All five characters have already been decided upon, so we'd like to show them to you as soon as possible."

"Out of the five, there'll be at least one brand new character," adds Ishiwatari.

Strive is already welcoming two never before seen fighters into the mix as Giovanna, a special operations agent who protects the President of the United States and is accompanied by a wolf spirit named Rei, and Nagoriyuki, a vampiric samurai, are making their GG debuts.

4Gamer also inquires about how the development team landed on these two new additions, ask the concepts that gave birth to Nagoriyuki and Giovanna were.

"Nagoriyuki's visuals were created with story as the focus. He just appeared that way in my head and I drew him like that. The brush wouldn't stop moving," replies Ishiwatari.

"Conversely, we had a lot of trouble with Giovanna. As a secret service agent protecting the President, we couldn't make her design all too extravagant and in the end she sort of ended up a character who isn't very 'Guilty Gear'. Seeing her end up high in the popularity polls was something of a happy accident."

Guilty Gear Strive is slated to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on June 11. Check back often here on EventHubs for more developer discussion, game coverage, and more as this next exciting Guilty Gear chapter unfolds.
